I tried so hard to read it because a couple friends were obsessed. However, two of my other friends hated it as much as I did. I loved the musical when I saw it in Chicago, but I just couldn't do the novel for some reason.
The author's style is definitely a bit odd, but I would up liking it. I think I might be in the minority on this one though. I've actually read the whole series.
I did love the musical when we were in Chicago though. I feel like if it hadn't been a good 5 years since I read the book I would have avoided the musical too.
I read it back when it was first published, because people were raving about it. I thought the premise was interesting, but the book itself was lackluster.
In hindsight, at the time I think everyone was so taken with the novelty of the idea that they overlooked the book's structural shortcomings.

I probably agree with this. I read it many years ago in college and I'm pretty sure the premise is what won me over. I recall the book dragging on and on though. I'm wondering if I read it again today if I would like it as much.
I will also say that for anyone who has seen the play - the book is drastically different. And if you loved the play...I'm unsure if you will like the book.

I never finished it. I was reading it a few years ago with a book club but couldn't get into it at all. I love musicals but because of the book I have not seen Wicked in the theater yet.

Gregory mcquire books are a hard read. Mirror mirror had very little punctuation. It's like learning to read all over again. Overall I liked the book but it is only enjoyable if you have been reading his books for awhile, at least for me lol
I'm in the "liked but did not love it" camp. It was difficult to get into; however, it did pick up about halfway through. I would LOVE to see the musical though.
