So I am currently looking for a new job. I applied to a company awhile back and on Monday I got a call from their HR to setup a phone interview. Well, my phone was off when they called so it went voicemail and I did not get until I left work Monday night. I returned the call on Tuesday and left a message. I give everyone 24 hrs to return a call. So yesterday I did not get a call back and I called again with the same results. Now we are 24 hrs after the second return call and she has not called me back. What the H gives? this has happened a couple times to me where HR calls and leaves a message and I call back but never anything more. I kinda of want to call back and leave a nasty message about how unprofessional it is not to return a call. But that is not professional either.
50% of my job is conducting phone interviews. I required to conduct at least 20 per week.
Now, with that being said I have an assistant that calls to set up the interview, an email confirmation is then sent. On the assigned day and time I call the candidate, if they do not answer I call back 5 mins later, if no answer I call be 10 mins later and leave a msg. That is my final call. If the candidate calls me back later and tells me they did not answer b/c they forgot to turn on their cell or their cell died I reject them from the job and move on.
If they call back and say, their wife was in labor, their kid was in the ER, they were in a car accident for those reasons I will reschedule. Having their phone off when they have a confirmed interview is absolutely not a valid reason in my book.
This was not even the phone interview. It was to set one up. I never even talked to this person or anyone. I believe in my post I said they call on monday and left a message stating they wanted to setup a phone interview but my phone was off when they left the message.
There was no confirmed interview!!!
you call and leave a message saying that you want to setup a phone interview but do not response to the return call to do that. I not sure I want to work for your company.
I interpreted it as you missed the interview not missed the call to set up the interview.
Oh well then send them an email. (you can find their email on linked in) If you don't hear back then assume they had to fill the role asap OR the role closed unexpectedly.

You did nothing wrong so don't sweat it!
If, i missed the actual phone interview then it's my fault and I let it be. This was to set up the interview. The job is still listed on the their web site. I not going to beg for an interview by hunting down an email b/c someone is to lazy to return a call.

Is this a job through a direct employer or a staffing agency?
Can't people read?. I don't know that I would only call once a day. I'll probably call once in the morning and once in the afternoon. You don't have to leave a message both times.

So it took you time to get back to them, but you're upset because it's taking a little more time for them to get back to you?
As usual with these things, a gazillion things could have happened. Maybe they've already contacted people who did answer their phone, and are setting up interviews. When they get those people settled, they'll get back to you, and in the meantime calling you is kind of a waste of time. Maybe something happened with the person who called you initially, and they just haven't been able to get back to you due to pressing work issues. Etc, etc.
And I don't find it amazingly unprofessional to not return a call. Because of the many reasons it could happen.

direct employer.
Then you have done all you can. Send an email and be done with it. Anything after that is stalkerish. As I said above and as Dr. L said they may have needed to fill the job asap.

omg chill out. They're probably busy scheduling and interviewing the people who answered when they called. Or maybe the HR person is off for a couple days. I get that you want a new job but wanting to call the company and leave a nasty message, saying you're not sure you want to work for the company, etc. because of this is way overreacting.
ETA: I know you're not going to do it, but even going there with your vitriol is kinda crazy.

This. I currently have a stack of emails from candidates that want an informational, a phone screen or an interview set up. I reply as soon as I can, but I'm busy. You need to relax - I wouldn't be surprised by a one week delay, & if someone didn't call me back in the situation you describe, I would assume they'd already filled the role & move on.
The nasty message thing? Completely childish & unprofessional.

In most of the places I have worked HR was AWFUL about recruiting new staff. Just awful. I would not hold it against the whole company just because one person in HR might be lazy, or on scheduled time off, or sick, or busy, or distracted.
I would NOT write off a job because I didn't like the HR person.
