This seems like a group that can discuss politics without it getting too heated. I'd love to hear people's viewpoints on Inslee vs. McKenna. Not necessarily who you are voting for (although you can include that if you want) but what you know about each candidate and their stance on the economy, education, and different issues.
I think they've made it clear their stance on abortion and gay rights (both support roe v. wade, Inslee supports gay marriage while McKenna thinks it should go to a public vote). And I know McKenna is for charter schools, but I don't know the details of their education stance beyond that (and would love a teacher's input - Joenali? )
So Seattle GBCNers, care to give your thoughts or insight on the candidates?
honestly, i haven't done a whole lot of research on mckenna v. inslee, but i do know that i 99.9999999% vote for democrats. there'd have to be a very strong case against the dem in the running for me to vote the other way.

I'm a registered democrat and also vote democrat the VAST majority of the time. I'm thinking this year will be no different - especially because I'm not a fan of charter schools. But am just trying to find out more about both sides.
I don't like either of them honestly. But when McKenna sued for WA state that Obamacare was unconstitutional, that makes me not vote for him. I tend to vote Democrat anyway.
My union (WEA) I think at first endorsed McKenna and then changed to Inslee. I think, but I don't remember exactly the explanation why.

Yep, big factor. I'm definitely a Democrat, and can't imagine ever voting for a Republican presidential or U.S. senatorial candidate, but I'm a little more flexible at the state/local level, as the lines between R and D tend to be a little softer here in WA. So if we're talking about someone who's a Republican but still moderate in social issues, I'm willing to consider them if I'm not bowled over by the Democratic candidate, but McKenna's opposition to the Affordable Care Act puts him on my "no way" list.

I will definitely be voting for McKenna (I'm a libertarian, was registered Republican in California, and am very fiscally conservative). Note, I will definitely not be voting for Romney.
I don't have a chance to write a long and detailed response but basically:
I think fiscal and educational issues are most important to our state, which is the basis for McKenna's platform. I support his views in both areas. Even though I don't agree with his stance on gay marriage, I do appreciate that he supports the issue for a vote.

I am a teacher and will be voting for Inslee. McKenna supports merit pay and charter schools, is endorsed by Stand for Children (an organization I do not trust at all and disagree with consistently), and canceled appointments with WEA staff two times.
