I don't know why I get sucked into the trap of buying my cat toys. His favorite things to play with are boxes (thank you Amazon for the supply) and empty toilet paper tubes.
Well they only have two scratching posts right now and the new cat doesn't use either of them so I thought maybe a new one would be more neutral and he would like it. Also the two we have are really worn out. One has so much exposed wood my cat uses it to sharpen his nails.

We spent a ton on this dumb condo with multiple perches for our cat a few Christmasses ago. She ignored it until one day she decided it was her new favorite place.
Her favorite toys are wrapped cough drops. I have a whole container full of small mice, furry balls, crinkle balls, and she will seek out a bag of cough drops and hide them for later.
We have that scratching post and love it. You should get the perch for on top of it, so they have an incentive to climb it. And praise the hell out of them/reward them for using it. If I say "treat," my cats run over to that scratching post and start scratching and then get treats. Sometimes when they're using it if I say "good [boy/girl, depending on cat]" they'll start scratching harder because they want a treat.
Rubbing catnip on it can also help.
Yes I think we're going to get the perch. Thanks for the tips!
