I'm considering surprising DH with a trip to Vegas for his 30th. How many days/nights do you recommend? If we flew in on a Thursday night and fly home mid-day Monday, is that too long? My BIL and SIL have a rule that they don't spend more than 3 nights there ever or they get too exhausted. This would likely be in mid January and we will be coming from Chicago.
Any other good milestone birthday gifts you've given to your SO?
I think 3 days sounds good. We visited last year and spent 4 nights, but we did take a day and went to visit the Grand Canyon. I think we had enough time to walk around, take in the sites and enjoy ourselves.

I think that's perfect.
Whatever you do don't leave Vegas on Sunday. We had a travel agent and gate agents tell us that it's their busiest day and if something happens to your flight it's really hard to get rebooked.
If it is just the two of you, it will probably be subdued enough that you won't get exhausted. I only end up exhausted and needing to leave when we go with friends and are out at clubs etc. super late. We don't do that when it is just the two of us.
So 3-4 nights sounds good to me, although I've only ever been when it is hot and since I'm not much of a gambler, I don't know what I'd do for several days in Las Vegas when pools aren't open.
I've only ever left Vegas on Sundays and only once was it a problem (we were fine; the security line was just really long).

V, I agree with you. We are the type of people that enjoy vacation and are fine lazing around the hotel in the morning. We don't always need to be doing things. And we aren't huge into the clubs so I'm not sure how much of that we would enjoy.
H loves Vegas and I've never been. Before kids, we definitely want to go and we are TTC, so now might be our chance.
So for those of you saying 3 nights, would you fly in Friday night and stay until Monday afternoon?
I always fly out on Wednesday or Thursday night (depending on how long I'm staying) and fly home on Sunday.
But the first night is barely a night because my plane arrives at 9:30ish so I don't even get to the hotel until like 10:30. And I like to be there for all of Friday night, rather than getting a super late start because of the flight and then being jetlagged anyway.
So for those of you saying 3 nights, would you fly in Friday night and stay until Monday afternoon?
I can do 3 nights max in Vegas. The last time I went, we flew out on a direct flight on Sat AM that actually had us arriving in Vegas at 8am because of the time change. Then we flew back on Monday afternoon. That was perfect for that trip, it was a bachelorette weekend. With your H, I think 3 nights would be good because you could do one more relaxing night of just a show and dinner. I would fly out Friday morning and come back on Monday.
We usually go for 3-4 nights, get a rental car, and spend 1-2 days out in the desert, ziplining, at the Hoover Dam, etc. We've also done the Grand Canyon on a helicopter tour.
Rental cars when purchased as part of a package are dirt cheap in Vegas, and there is SO much to do outside the city.
We did three nights last spring and it was fun, but we were definitely done when we left.
I think it also depends on the time change/flight distance involved.
If you take a flight that doesn't arrive until nighttime (which many east coasters do) and the day you leave is going to get eaten up by travel (a non-stop 11am flight out of LAS doesn't arrive in NY until 7:15pmish), it doesn't make all that much sense to go for 2 nights because you'll only only have one day there and one of the 2 nights you won't be ready for dinner/to go out until like 11.
If I was coming from LA or Seattle, 2 nights would probably make a ton more sense.
H and I are going for the first time next week. We will be flying in Monday night and home Friday morning. I have been told by several people that 3 days is plenty in Vegas. 1 of the days we will be going to the Hoover Dam.
v is correct. It completely depends on where you are coming from. Flying out of NY we would never go for just 2 nights. DH and I chatted about this last night, as we want to leave and fly somehwhere on a Friday afternoon coming up.
We won't land until Friday evening, then would turn around and leave there around noon on Sunday, only to get back to NY late in the evening on Sunday.
It's a bit of a hike from NY for 2 nights and with the time zone differences.
