We have it, but we also subscribe to Netflix streaming and Hulu+. I think without those two subscriptions, it wouldn't be worth it for us since we don't use any of the other "channels" that are available on there.
I like it since we don't have a DVR and I can watch shows the next day through Hulu+, except for CBS, which really isn't a limitation/issue specific to Roku.

yes, I love my roku 2 box.
However, I am not sure what you mean by "switching" to it. I need it in addition to cable, I don't think its a cable replacement.
With my roku I can stream content from amazon, netflix, hulu plus, hbo go, etc but its not like the stuff on there is free. You still have to pay for memberships to netflix and amazon prime, and then the free stuff isn't that great, anyways.
I do like streaming pandora on it, though, because then it goes through our receiver and out my surround sound.
We have it, but we also have cable. We like it, but I wouldn't use it as a replacement for real TV. (Though we don't have Hulu Plus, so maybe that would change things).
Also, it is kind of redundant now that we have a Blu-Ray player that will do Netflix streaming.
We bought it for my parents, and then got the a 3-month Netflix streaming subscription. Mom likes having the music and internet options on her TV. Dad can't figure out how to turn the damn thing on.
I've played with it, it seems very user friendly.
We actually just use a cheap media PC for us - we have all our DVDs saved on our network, and can watch those, stream Netflix and Hulu and DVR our favorite shows.
It's been replacing my cable for almost 4 years now. Check out PlayOn channel for Roku. I got a lifetime license for $50. It streams pretty much all the networks, plus other things like HGTV, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel, Food Network and a bunch of sports channels. It's well worth it. I don't miss my cable at all. Also, I have an antenna on the roof, so there you go.

PlayOn totally rocks my socks. The only thing I haven't been able to watch with PlayOn is college football.
ETA: You don't need a Roku for PlayOn. You can use a Playstation, Wii, or other devices.
We have: Verizon FIOS (HD, DVR, the works) and PS3. No current subscription to Hulu or Netflix. I do have Amazon Prime but never really use it for TV/movies.
Would it be possible to switch to Roku + PS3 and get all the normal networks (ABC, CBS, etc) plus sports channels?
Will check out PlayOn. Maybe we don't need a Roku at all. ACK

We only have a PS3 that runs PlayOn. Included with PlayOn you can add the free Hulu channel...I watch ABC, CBS, FOX, Food Network, and Bravo shows all through this. They have a 1 week free trial.

Yes, you can. I have PlayOn running on my Wii as well. The Roku license was the best deal I found though.

What you maybe aren't understanding is that the roku = / = cable. The roku is a device that you can use to stream other products.
So you can use the roku to stream things like amazon, netflix, hulu & playon, but you can't just like turn it to your local CBS affiliate. So if those other products offer CBS content, then you can watch it. You might have to pay a fee for the services that you use on your roku box.

If you want your local affiliates and want to watch the scheduled/live TV, you either need an HD antennae or a cable or fios subscription that gives you access to those local networks.

I will add that I got annoyed and cancelled my hulu plus subscription on my roku b/c there were a bunch of shows that H wanted to watch that were computer only. Like Burn Notice, White Collar, and most of the USA shows. I don't know if that has changed now, though.

I think this is still the case. At least it was a month or two ago over the summer. It's a little annoying. But you could probably use the PlayOn channel to stream it. It's annoying to have to jump through all the hoops though.

We use it, but we also have Netflix, Amazon and HuluPlus. We bought a cord that runs from our laptop to our TV so we can watch anything you can find online on our TV. The cord cost around $25. We no longer have cable or satellite service of any kind and we don't miss it at all. Even with the subscriptions and occasional content that we pay for, we usually don't even spend $30/month for it.
We have the roku for netflix and amazon (we don't have prime, just individual shows we purchased seasons of). We cancelled cable last year.
Streaming netflix on the Wii sucks and the Wii-mote sucks. The roku is worth it just for the simple interface and a remote that my MIL and my 2yo can operate.
