Someone in the Inslee/McKenna thread wants to ride Mike McGinn out of town on a rail. I hear this a lot from some of my friends who are in politics for a living (either they agree, or they think he's made unpopular decisions and is toast in the next election).
I confess to not getting this. What has he done that makes people so mad?
Ok, IMO the problem is, he's very pro-environment (not a bad thing) and will do anything to push that even if it doesn't make sense (bad thing). For example, raising all the parking rates etc. to force people to take public transit/ride bikes. Not a bad idea, BUT we don't really have the kind of public transit that would make people choose the bus over their car. And I don't ride bikes. In places where the metro > car (Paris, NYC), it's a no-brainer, but you can't just put up more rules/cost because it ends up hurting businesses etc. He just bugs me because he has this holier-than-thou attitude about stuff like this. He's made certain streets where we live 'bike' friendly by making it so you aren't supposed to turn certain places if you're driving, but it makes absolutely no sense and I hardly see any bikes there (not a trail, like a regular side street).
I take the bus every day because it does make sense (no cheap parking), so I can attest to the fact that it sucks. I'm not giving up my car until the system improves.
