I have these boots:
They are very dark brown. I wear them all the time with jeans and leggings, but can I wear them with a solid black dress? It's a dress similar to this:
I am accessorizing with a black/muted creme hoop scarf and bright funky earrings (turquoise/blues). I'm also thinking about wearing these grey leopard tights (they are pretty mild leopard, you hardly even notice when they're on unless you look closely): Tights/hose are necessary because it's chilly and the dress is short (about 5 inches above knee), and if I have to bend or reach I would prefer to not show my underoos.
I really really really do not want to wear my black boots, which are high heels. My other black boots are fug utilitarian snow boots. I need something comfortable, and these are the most comfortable boots I own. This is for a long night of hostessing at a hip restaurant and then going to a concert immediately after. I don't know why I'm overthinking this so much. This is a new, very part-time job and the only dress requirement is that we look "fashionable" - which I am only a little bit. Am I going to look like a hot mess? TIA!

OK, usually I wear this exact outfit with the black boots, but I just cannot stand and run around a restaurant in 3 inch heels for 6 hours. I need to re-think the whole thing. Bah!
I'm biased because I HATE cowboy boots with dresses. The woman married to my brother wore a white dress with cowboy boots to my wedding. Half the girls in HS thought it was cute. I never could get behind it. NMS, but like alzi said..tooooo much going on.

I know I know! ARGH! I am just struggling with comfort vs. style. I'm nixing the black dress and going with another dress. Aye chihuahua this is HAAARD yall.
I also agree you can mix brown and black if the colors are right, but those boots and those tights? Noooooo. The dress looks like it's cut nicely, I like it. I'd accessorize it with a chunky bracelet and maybe some nice earrings. I'd get rid of the boots, but I don't like cowboy boots unless I'm going to the rodeo which is, well, never.

OK maybe I'll just change my shoe idea away from boots. I just love boots and I am SO excited it is the season. The only problem now is that I hate my black flats with this dress, my black heels are like 4 inches (not good for restaurant), and I don't really have anything else that's not heels or matches. I work from home, so I don't own a ton of sensible shoes, just ridiculous and fun going out shoes and tons of flip flops. Bah.

OK no tights. I promise the picture makes them look much more garish than they look ON! LOL. But anyway, I won't wear them!
All the other fuss? booooooo. Everyone there wears tons of scarves and huge earrings and crazy shit all the time, so I thought I was headed in the right direction. APPARENTLY NOT. I fail at being a got-dang hipster.
You can mix brown and black if you tie it together well. Can you wear a brown belt around the middle? And then a turquoise necklace to tie in with the color on the boots. No spotted tights, though.
I like the belt idea, but I lost a ton of weight and I have no clothes. I was trying to make do with the little I do have that fits me. I am so bad at this.
You're working as a hostess. No one gives a good goddamn about how fashionable your shoes are, trust me. Most of those heifers working are wearing safety shoes any damned way.

LOL I'm calm, I'm just being dramatic/slightly silly. And yes, everyone there cares about shoes, trust. Nobody wears those hideous safety shoes. This place is like walking into a damn hipster fashion show.
