is painted. From boring indeterminate grayish to "Connected Gray" which is actually green when it's up on the wall. I'm in the Pac NW so this green stuff is totally normal. If it's not the original house paint color, it's moss or mold. ;D DH didn't want gray or "a big brown turd" and I'm not a fan of the blue hues and there are yellow(ish) houses all around us so green (my favorite color anyway) it is!
They have to repaint the front door because it's blistering due to paint overload (they've had to paint it three times due to bugs traipsing through it the first time and accidentally dropping a piece of mask on the paint the second...poor Henry who's had to do all that work only to start over in two weeks after it's properly cured.)
Before: Greenish-gray with green-blue trim:
During: with grayish-green (Connected Gray is the color but it's definitely green not gray when it's on the walls - lol) with Eclipse trim and the original columns and white door. The railings at this time were painted Suave Sage (or some similar alliteration), which was the original color we picked for the house:
After(ish): with the new columns and railings painted Ancient Marble (two shades lighter than the sage originally on the railing but not quite white) and the door in Umbrella Black. I like the columns better but I was expecting more detail and profile on the upper cap; it looks good close up though. C'est la vie, it's a huge improvement and we've gotten lots of compliments, including people stopping as they drive by to tell us how much better it looks. I'm rethinking the garage door though and wondering if it should be the color of the columns but it was already painted when I picked out the column colors mid-project and we're not spending the time or money on having it redone so I like it how it is dammit and I'm not second-guessing myself any more. I'm having numbers custom-made for the right column and we're redoing the landscaping eventually. At some point we're going to probably change out the river rock for stacked rock and change out the exterior lights. For now we're replanting flowers, edging and remulching. Forgive the current dearth of color and death of plantings, I haven't watered for the past three weeks or did only minimal yardwork so I didn't risk any part of the paint process:
By the time we're done we're going to be the "over-renovated house on the block." But if we're stuck here, we're stuck here and I'm going to LIKE it, or else.
I hear you on the garage, which is why I painted it in the first place. I hate that most of the garage doors in our neighborhood are white. And even worse, the predominant feature of the house. It's like a big wall or cavern at the front of the house that stops your eye before you actually see the house. It's row upon row of garage doors with little porches and houses attached.
My next house is going to have a side-load or set-back garage if at all possible.
I love your house! It looks a lot like our house in Santa Barbara, which I think of as our "real" house even though we live in LA now. Is your granddaughter feeling better? Sad we aren't in Vegas.
Yes, she is. She even went to school yesterday, the brat. Fever broke and no nausea. She gets a "bye" for the 24-hour wait the school wants for fevers because of her medical issues. I think she got all vomity on purpose and as soon as she heard me call the airline to cancel the tix she decided she was going to get all better.
Speaking of, if your flight hasn't left yet, maybe you can call the airline and get a credit on a future ticket. Alaska did that for me when I explained the situation and they've done it before (when I was hospitalized.) I bought the non-refundable as well but they were pretty gracious about it, as was Mandalay even though I called Thursday pm for a Friday reservation.
There's a flight out of here at 11:30 that will get me there a little after 1:00. I don't think DH will go for it though. I'll see if I can talk him into using the money for a triple-birthday-party-Thanksgiving-weekend trip for the grands (two November birthdays and one December) instead at his not so favorite indoor waterpark. At least we'll be coming out ahead.
