What about something that compliments the copper, but isn't copper or nude but somewhere in between? I'm thinking a satin pump instead of patent or leather. I think you're right that it's too dramatic for a basic nude with the slit. You'll probably need to try a few to find something that compliments the dress. I'm thinking somewhere between taupe or brown, but it could be either of these colors.

Those are one of my favorites too. Since you have the high slit, I think going with nude would give the illusion of longer legs but take away the drama by not having the wow factor with great shoes showed off by the slit.
