I'm working an upcycle project on an NHL jersey as a tribute to a close friend's band. I'm thinking of cutting off the sleeves and side panels to replace them with a flowy lace sleeve and open lace sides. I'm contemplating gathering the sleeves at the wrist with elastic to help make it more functional and keep the sleeves from being a burden. I can't figure out a way to finish or take out the neck since it's a v. Ideally, I'd like to make it an 80's of the shoulder deconstructed neckline. I want the lace since it's a member's name and will be on their favorite team's jersey with the band name and established year. This is a huge thank you for them supporting my husband and I all summer. Ideas, suggestions, tutorials? I want it kind of sexy like my ND jersey, but not that bare since it will be worn in a rink. TIA!
I'm doing my best to picture this. Could you cut out the neck and sew some very thin elastic inside a continuous channel, including both the lace part and the jersey part? Kind of a boho look that could go off shoulder or just wide boatneck look? Or maybe you are saying that because it's a v, it will take out too much fabric and be way too wide?
That's my best idea given what I think you are gettin at

Yep, it's the v that's throwing me. I just worry that it will take things too low and wide in the front for it to turn into a boatneck. I may have to dig through DH's closet for another jersey that I can cut. They just build up so many layers on the necks in those jerseys.

It's the black Pittsburgh Penguins jersey. I'll see if I can dig up an image. It's mainly black with smaller white stripes and gold in wider stripes and accents. I have a really soft pretty white lace that isn't stiff, but more 80's than bridal.
ETA: pic I also have gold crushed velvet to work with that's the right shade.

Ah, gotcha. I will keep trying to think of ideas and let you know if I come up w/ anything.

Thanks Golden and Fashion. One of these guys gave me a piece of advice that's kept me so sane and grounded all summer. I'm not a Pens fan, but I'm thinking of taking him to a game to thank him. I'd like to do something like this for me that I could wear to shows or the rink.
What if you keep the v neck but use the lace around the shoulder area - cutting away the top portion of the jersey - so it's see-thru on the top?
I drew it in keeping the numbers on the sleeve over the lace but not sure if that might end up too bulky on your arm. You could just do a full lace sleeve too.

Fashion, you read my mind on this. I've been trying to figure this out and I'm pretty sure you just did. I love the number idea to make it a little tougher. Seriously, (in a non-clinger way) I want to do a sewing gtg. You and I have pretty similar style.

DH and I joke that I should start a concert couture line, but with where some of our friends are going I think it could end up a reality. That's kind of something I'd have a blast doing. I just feel like concert/sports merch needs more work than screenprinting.
I agree, so much stuff is so boring, even when the screen art is awesome, the shirt is still just a t-shirt. I'm sure there's a market for that kind of thing.

There has to be. Haute Hippie has sold out of their "You and Tequila" tank twice and they aren't cheap. My friend who just released a new video had his models shred their shirts. I know fans are going to want them. I'm watching another one on Stage It who is so boho that he really has a market for it too. He's in Amsterdam and addicted to Aviator tees. That's where DH found them.

I will post some pics. I still have a tee from BCBG to do. We need some kind of gtg soon to hear about HZ's trip and for me to regain a little sanity. My friend who plays Joe's has a habit of getting plowed at Tin Roofs and passing out free rounds of shots. Not sure if he could do it there, but when he plays the Brazilian Steakhouse outside of the city the owner there usually gets a round or two for us and dessert. He also encourages having a great time since he usually parties with the band.
