Honestly, it would depend on how much work I had, what I could do from home, etc. This week, yes, I would have gone in.
I don't work anymore but yes, pre-SAHM life I was really crazy about taking sick days. At day 3 I probably would have felt pressure from myself to buck up and go to work whether I was better or not;. Now that you are there and it's awful, you should probably just go home. Hey, you tried.
It depends on what is going on at work. I had the flu a couple weeks ago and came in on day 3. I came in wanting to get my desk cleared off and told myself I would head home if I started to feel too bad.

This. Some of my work is easily done from home, while other work is much easier to do at the office. I'd probably come in for the minimum amount of time I could get away with.

Is this the actual influenza you have, or just a flu-like virus? If it's the actual flu, I would be out of work until recovered because I am a NICU nurse and would not bring that into my unit.
I think it really depends on the job/firm. Some places are much more warm and fuzzy about this than others.
At the firms I've worked at, if a lawyer took three sick days in a row, we would assume that the person was at death's door. I can't think of anyone ever doing it who wasn't in the hospital or recovering from surgery. The girl who sits next to me took 2 sick days in a row a few months ago and I remember people being super concerned (and then it quickly turned to "G is checked out of this job, isn't she?" because she also started leaving at 6 most days... also, she's generally known to kind of not like working hard so that may explain why she felt comfortable taking 2 days off).
And I've gotten plenty of "you should go home"s or "you're so sick -- why are you here?"s from non-legal staff before, but I don't listen to them. The rules are different for them (with good reason, given the pay differences) and I don't think they realize that.

Same.
It's very funny how I treat myself relative to how I treat others. Unless someone is just ridiculous and blatantly abusing a generous sick time policy, I don't think twice when a colleague takes a day or few. But when it's my turn, I can't stop thinking of how it looks and whether people are questioning how sick I really am. It's silly.
Glad you're taking the work home. Hope you feel better soon.
At this employer, I would have to be dying to take more than a day off sick. At my last employer, I probably would have asked to work from home on day three. My boss probably would have told me not to be silly, and to take care of myself.
no, i won't go in while sick until i'm better...i don't want to risk getting my co-workers sick...after my coworker who sat right next to me kept coming in with pneumonia last year and i ended up getting it and was out of work for a long time, i just would rather let my body rest and not risk anyone else.
If you're still feeling bad, go home! I had the flu last year and was out for two days, but only because I started feeling sick on a Wednesday night. I was still really weak when I went back on Monday.
I can only take 5 days in 12 months, so I would probably work. In high school I was so sick with the flu that I couldn't walk to the bathroom and back without passing out for about 5 days though.
I took one day with swine flu a couple of years ago. It didn't actually make me that sick which was good.
update- left work after not an even hour. Drove home. got very dizzy driving and now I feel like shit. I'm in bed.
Took some work home and I can get my files through remote access, so I'll bill later and won't have to use a vacation day today. I dont want to use all my days since I have combined sick/vacation and I have vacation planned later this year.

This is how I kept getting the funk the summer I worked for a law firm : ) Everyone kept passing it around.
If you have a lot of work and didn't want to take the day I maybe would have come in and locked my office door. I probably would have stayed home and relished the chance to pawn my stuff off on other people, then been afraid of checking my voicemail.
The last time I got the flu I had a high fever for 7 days, and felt absolutely miserable for 2 whole weeks. I missed a whole week of work and worked from home the following week.
The flu had been going around that year so they were happy for me to stay home.
