My younger brother's divorce was recently finalized.
He needs to re-fi his house (which is in only his name, he owned it prior to marriage and is probably slightly underwater or about at break-even).
I'm trying to help him with this because financial stuff is not his strength and he's still a little overwhelmed with all of the events of the last year.
If his XW has their last 2 year's tax returns, can he request a replacement from the IRS here: www.irs.gov/Individuals/Need-a-Copy-of-Your-Tax-Return-Information%3F and use that for the loan application? (Yes, the easiest way would be to ask her for copies, but there's enough animosity there that it might put a stop to the whole process in his mind.)
Has anyone else had to do that? Did a lender give you trouble? Is it easy to get a copy of your return? (He works for my parents' business, so I imagine getting his copies of his last 2 W-2s would be reasonably simple, and he would obviously have his pay stubs, bank statements, etc since they were separated for a year prior to the divorce.)
yes, you can request it from the IRS. Do you know if they did their taxes on turbo tax or took them to an accountant? He could also ask to get a copy from them.

I thought of that, but she handled all that info so unless my CPA uncle did them (long shot), I don't think he'll know anything about it or ask her for it.
You can request a copy of your tax return from the IRS. Or from the paid preparer (I know my husband was able to even get an old return from H&R Block).
Be careful, the link you provided is for a tax return transcript. It provides the information from the return but not the actual forms that were filed. I would assume the bank would want the forms; you need to file Form 4506 not Form4506T.
