Does your stylist thin your hair out? Especially the ends? My hair isn't super thick but I have a lot of it. My stylist insists on thinning and I think it makes my hair look like a dry hay stack. If we can't come to a resolution at my next appt, then I'm going to have to break-up. She's a great colorist so I hate to do that.
I have her layer a lot bc my hair is so heavy and it gets flat at my scalp bc of the weight. But she doesn't thin it out, just layers with a face frame.

I have a lot of thin hair, but mine won't do this because neither of us feels that it would work well for me. Finding someone who is good with both cuts and color is very difficult. Most of the best colorists will not lift scissors if they are awesome at color. The person who has been doing Reba's red refuses to even trim bangs. Is there a way to keep her for color and find someone else to cut? Good color is hard to find too.
Mine does but very subtly and with longer layers. She never puts a razor to my hair.
Me too.
My stylist told me that many stylists do not know how to properly thin or razor cut, and can get "scissor happy" easily if they aren't super experienced. It doesn't sound like your stylist is doing it right, or reading your hair texture/thickness. I would ask for no thinning next time and see how your hair behaves without it.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't think I was crazy. There is no way I could keep her as a colorist and not have her cut my hair. She is a bit of a loose canon sometimes so I know that would make her go off. fashionx-I think she is scissor happy. I tried to grow my hair for a very long time and coudn't make progress, when she went on maternity leave I finally got it longer. She also makes weird comments about how my hair can only get shorter, not longer. My hair is just above my bra strap so it's not super long. It's like she isn't allowing me to grow it longer. The more I think about it the more I know she's already break-up worthy...I just dread going through the hassle of finding someone new. All my friends have stylists that are way inconvenient for me location wise so I'd have to find someone on my own.
Does she thin it with thinning shears?? Or point cut it to add texture?? I point cut a lot of different types of hair so the ends/layers aren't blunt and they blend nicer, but it's not always necessary. If you don't want her to do it anymore I would just say so. If she gets offended, time to find someone new. It is your hair and she should do what you want. As a stylist, nothing bothers me more than when a stylist doesn't listen to their client.
I get mine thinned with thinning shears, but my hair is thick, heavy and very straight. My stylist and I joke that if it doesn't look like something terrible happened to a cocker spaniel under her chair she she needs to keep going.

The amount of control that she's taking away from you by not letting you grow it is not right. With her taking that much control, even if she wouldn't get mad about only doing color, I wouldn't be able to trust her with it. I'd think at some point she'd do something to your color without your consent. You need to fire her and find someone you trust. Even if you have to go out of your way for a look you love, I'd do it. Don't bother telling her since it sounds like she could blow up on you.
