When we have kids! He feels strongly since we both be working 50+ hr weeks, we will have no time to really focus on the house. I was hoping to get one now, but at least got him to agree to it!

We goth one last year, best thing ever! The cleaning lady only comes once every two weeks but that is enough for us. We both work 40 hours a week and have two kids. I can't imagine having to work 50+ hours each though. When will you see your kids?
Lucky! Although I'm pretty sure my h would agree to one so he doesn't have to clean.
He ain't cleaning inside of the house either way .
I don't think he should have a say if he doesn't do the cleaning. Why should you have to work all week and then come home and clean. If you can afford it you should do it now.
If he doesn't clean, he doesn't get a vote. I have plenty of time to clean, but would still love for someone to come and do it for me. If I worked 50 hours/week, I'd hire someone in a heartbeat.

Well, we normally decide on everything together, since its "our money". he was very opposed to even consider it for a while since he was afraid of letting a stranger into the house. So this is a big step. Right now just happy he said yes, it won't be that long have to wait maybe a few years.

My DH is opposed to it, too. Our compromise is that I told him next time I see a groupon, etc. for housecleaning I'm buying it. I'm hoping I can periodically do that. We barely keep up with the day to day stuff and I feel like we never get to the deep cleaning.

thanks for that little jab.
Yeah, WTF. My DH travels Monday - Friday and gets plenty of quality time with our son on the weekend. We were at a BBQ yesterday and my friends mom was telling me what an amazing father he was because he spent the whole time playing with our DS. It is quality of time that matters imo.

This is a good idea, but I can do a monthly clean at least..I will watch for those

Its not like that all the time, we are on/off about that, some weeks he works more, some I do, most of our friends work, its not uncommon. After work, weekends. My dad worked 6 days a week, and he found time, so I don't believe there will be any issues.
Wow, ok, I didn't mean it to sound that way. I just think that is a lot of hours to work for both parents. To each their own I guess.
Yea, its all good. I know some won't get it, which is fine. Our families are very into SAH , but thats just not us- we are already against the grain at this point.

This is what we were thinking, just making the times we do spend with them count. Hoping I can reduce my hours, but time will only tell, both of our companies are not kiddo friendly, which we are trying to change, by changing jobs to be less on call.
