What is there to do there besides a light house and whale watching?

I'd be interested in whale watching recs, too! Let me know when you were there. I'm trying to decide of mid-June is too early in the season.

we just went a few months ago for the first time! (it was my first weekend away from dd
we didn't really plan anything - we just walked the beach one evening - down to the lookout
and ate out each evening, went to the movies (they have a really nice cinema there)
and spent like 2 days wandering around the shops and just people watching
it's SUCH a chilled out place - we really enjoyed it - lots of good restaurants & good shopping

I DID have a hot air balloon trip booked for us - but it got cancelled due to weather

it's a nice trip from Brisbane though - we flew into Brissie & rented a car & drove down for the weekend

also June is quite early in the whale watching season - isn't that right at the start or when they start going UP the coast?
I'd check with the companies in Byron & see what they have to say about it - whether they guarantee a spotting or not (the ones in Sydney do.....)

we went a few years ago out of Sydney and it was AMAZING! I'd love to go later in the year though too, when they come back down the coast with their babies
