Apparently I'm going to a conference in Colombia. I know nothing of the area. I'd love recommendations for when I fly in the day before and the afternoon before I fly back (conference ends at noon, flights not until 6)

The Vista area is nice. Gervais and Vine is a nice Tapas restaurant. Motor Supply Bistro is also very yummy and they change the menu daily. Nonnah's is known for their desert.
The museum is decent. Main Street is kinda making a comeback. The Mast General Store is a fun place to look around.

The vista (i'd say it starts at the corner of Gervais St. and Assembly St. and goes West from there down Gervais) is probably really close to where you'll be, as PP mentioned. Motor supply is great but on the pricier side. Blue Marlin has good and interesting seafood but also pricier. Also in the vista is Takosushi which is a fun fusion restaurant between mexican and asian foods. Liberty Taproom has a mean meatloaf sandwich and serves American fare. There's another tapas bar which is kind of cool named Blue nearby as well if you're into that. They recently got a new menu and chef which I've really enjoyed.
I'd stay away from 5 points - another part of town that you may hear about. It's been sort of weird/dangerous lately.
There's a gorgeous riverfront park that you can get to off Assembly St as well if you're looking for things to do in your downtime. PP mentioned Mast General Store - that is a great place to kill some time, too. Have fun - the weather is perfect down here right now!

I have eaten at the Blue Marlin, the food is really good there!
