What's your favorite for an OTC medicine? I need something for the sneezy, congested, sore throat stuff going on in my head right now. I have an event, though, tonight so I would like to have a glass or two of some adult beverage. Alcohol kills germs, right?
I usually take DayQuil or Tylenol Cold and Flu. I like the liquid medicines though because I think they work faster than pill form (I could be totally wrong though).
It depends on what type of cold it is. For nasal congestion, get the stuff behind the counter that you have to show ID for. Mucinex-D is AMAZING. I have a cold right now and it's killing my sinuses. I'm taking store brand equivalent of tylenol sinus and it's working pretty well.
I also use Listerine when I have a cold to kill the crap in my throat. I don't know if this actually works or not, but it makes me feel better.
I stick it out. I figured our bodies know what they're doing.
Drinking hot beverages raise the temperature of the upper esophagus which hinders viral growth.
This would be great advice if I said I was staying home in my pj's, drinking herbal tea, and watching "Jeopardy!" on TV.
Alas, I am going to a fancy event in Manhattan where I may be rubbing elbows with billionaires and politicians. No need to be sniffling and sneezing if I can take something to feel better.

. This is the worst. I was in an important meeting with the execs of an oil company this week and I had to excuse myself because I felt snot was suddenly running out of my nose and nothing was going to stop it but a massive nose blowing session. It's better to get that stuff dried up before it gets to one of those awkward moments!
I get the wallgreens version of Nyquil / Dayquil but only the behind the counter, show your driver's license stuff. I've found the other stuff doesn't have enough meds in it to realy help.

Agreed. I will die if I suspect snot is running down my nose to tonight.

Ah, that's unfortunate. Mucinex D is an expectorant and decongestant. If you have the choice between pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine, go with pseudoephedrine.

I agree with Mucinex DM, but only if you take first thing the morning. It contains pseudoephedrine and keeps me awake. It's behind the pharmacy counter. For tonight, I'd probably just take a mucinex (regular one) and use my Netipot.
