Is $2K about what to expect RT to New Zealand?

We paid $4100 for 2 people for travel in Feb 2012 (but bought the tickets in august 2011). We flew from Portland, OR, through LAX and were going to christchurch with a stop in Auckland. You may be able to get a little cheaper if you stop in Auckland but I doubt you will find much cheaper than 1800

I paid $1300 to fly round trip from Philadelphia to Napier in July. I had 2 layovers on Los Angeles and Auckland. This was 2009, though.

We flew into Auckland from Denver in March this year and it was roughly $1,500 a ticket. The prices did keep going up though. We could have gotten it for less, but we waited a little too long to pull the trigger. Good luck! NZ is an amazing place.

1300 should be doable, maybe only in the middle of winter, though. We got a $900 fare once before fuel prices went up.

Make sure you're not going in the high season (school holidays, Dec and Jan).

I will be going down in December to TA a study abroad trip, and the University is paying but the lead professor said they were running $2500 apiece, from DC to San Jose, then on to Auckland.
