I am trying to figure out of buying a $700+ dishwasher is worth its money? Ours was probably 200-300$. It works, but not that great. Is it really the dishwasher OR is the water pressure and other various things that a dishwasher can't control? Is it worth an expensive one? What is the difference?
We went from one that was probably ~$400 (and didn't get anything clean) to a $950 one that has everything coming out sparkling. Same detergent and rinse agent, vastly different results.

our house came with a crappy builder grade dishwasher that we never liked - very loud and didn't clean that grat. we upgraded to a bosch and it is so much better. totally worth the extra money!

Ditto - we had our basic builder grade model (the cheapest GE) and it never got anything clean. We upgraded to the Bosch and while I can't say I love running / unloading the dishwasher, everything comes out REALLY clean and it saves me the annoyance of that household chore.
I'd do it if you have the cash to spend, and only if there's a sale or other discount available (or you negotiate) - we got ours (retails for 950) for less than $800 given how crappy the economy is right now.
We went from a builder basic model to a Miele. Worth every penny. Much cleaner, and quieter. I recommend a Miele over a Bosch, if you're looking at European machines. We had both and I liked the Miele way better.

We moved from a cheap one in a rental to a Bosch in the home we bought. Honestly, I can't tell a huge difference in cleanliness. I mean, I guess we use a little less detergent and we can stuff things closer together, but it's all the same clean. It is very, very quiet. The previous owner told me she loved it and would never buy anything else.
We have a tall tub Smeg. It was worth the money for that extra inch of height. Pan handles don't get in the way anymore.
If you are having trouble with dishwashers getting stuff clean it may be the soap. They stopped putting phosphate in the soap. You can buy trisodium phosphate at Home Depot.
We had a GE profile and left it when we sold our house. The one we have in our rental is a kenmore (not sure what model) and while it does the job, I miss my GE. I dont remember how much it was though...I think it was $800 about 5 years ago.
We upgraded from a Frigidaire POS builder thing to a GE Profile because that's what DH bought for a fridge and stove when we bought the house and he has to have all his labels match. There really is a huge difference between the rattle-trap old dw that chipped dishes and didn't get them clean and was loud and the one we have now that is a tall-tub with ss innards and is so quiet you have to listen carefully to tell if it's operating.

We had a Kitchen Aid one that was about 6 years old at our other house and it was super quiet, cleaned great, and was wonderful. We're not big rinsers, so about once a year, my DH would clean out some catch thing at the botttom of the dishwasher. Oh and those soap pouches and natural liquid soap worked way worse than natural grain/solid soaps for some reason.
The Bosch I just used was also the basic Bosch one and was didn't clean as well, but we also are using the soap pouches again and I think they actually are part of the problem, not the dishwasher.
