I got a note from my gas company saying you could save up to 10% on your gas bill if you turn down the heat by 10-15 degrees during the day when no one is home. That seems really extreme to me. I usually turn mine down 4-5 degrees to somewhere around 65- 68 when we're not home and around 68 at night. ETA: I'm always cold, so our home temp is 72; sleeping is 70.
What's your home/not home/sleeping temperature variation?
We used to do a 10 or so degree difference before we had dogs. Now we're more of a 5 - 7 degree difference. Yes, they're furry, but we don't want to freeze them.

When we're at home, it's usually around 68 or 69. That's pretty comfortable in our house, especially upstairs where it warms up very quickly. If we are downstairs, we'll turn the heat down or off and use the fireplace instead.
When we're not home, it goes down to 60. We have it timed to start warming back up 30 min. before I get home from work.
Sleeping--usually around 67 or 68.
FWIW, we just moved in this house in Aug. We have not been through a winter here, so these are our temps now with outside temps in the 40s or 50s. When it gets really cold, we will kick up the heat in the house.

Ours goes down to 60 when we're not home and up to 68 when we get home. We have a fireplace that we use most nights when it starts getting really cold to heat it up even more than that.

We don't adjust our temp to sleep and there's always someone here during the day (I'm a SAHM) but we keep it far lower than most people, at 60-62 day and night. We were visiting the ILs yesterday and I was overheating in a short sleeved shirt because their heat was set to 72 and that's too warm for my comfort.
Jeez... I must be really cheap or really warm blooded. Before having DS, I would keep it at 64 while we were home and awake and 58 when we were out or sleeping. I now keep it at 65 at all times.
Am I freezing my baby? It sounds like some of you take better care of your dogs.
This is us too! We have a programmable thermostat. When we're gone during he day the house is at 58, and it kicks back on at 5pm to heat the house to 64. I'm hot blooded, we're cheap and we live in a cold northern climate. We wear sweaters/ sweatshirts.
I think a lot of it has to do with the type of heat you have. I know growing up we had electric and a heat pump heats differently than gas, which is what we have now.
Sometimes I'm cold at 68. I wear sweaters, slippers, and turn on a fireplace if I want to warm up a bit.
Our dog is not going to freeze in 60 degrees. He's probably more comfortable in 60 degrees than 68. We have several outside dogs in our neighborhood (dogs not allowed in the house) and while I don't agree with keeping outside-only dogs, if they can survive cold Minnesota winters outdoors, I don't think I'm hurting my dog by turning the heat down to 60 :-)
