We took him to meet the puppy, and the two of them got along ok - not amazing. Often Doggie D meets new dogs and they're like long lost BFFs. These two just kind of played in the same yard at the same time. But we also brought my parents' dog, because it's important to our family dynamic that the dogs all get along. Especially with my mom's health, it's important to us to be able to pick up and go, and bring our dog(s) to visit them whenever. Well, the puppy and my parents' dog did NOT get along. The puppy is much more aggressive than either of our dogs, and he and my parents' dog got into it over and over.
The "puppy" turned 1 on Friday, so he's got some bad habits that would be a lot of work to retrain. We thought there was possibility, but in the end we realized that my dad wouldn't ever trust him or be comfortable with him regardless of our efforts. So we did not bring him home.
I am bummed. I was really excited for the new addition.
I am sorry to hear that it wasn't the experience you hoped for but am glad that you're being responsible and not just adding a dog because you want one. The right puppy that meshes with your family immediately is out there!
Aww I'm sorry. But it's for the best if all 3 dogs didn't get a long, plus if he's 1 now, he'll need someone who can spend time training him out of some of his bad habits.
Sorry to hear that it didn't work out, but I think its great that you took the time to introduce the dogs before you adopted. I am sure that the perfect second dog is out there for you guys somewhere. Good luck!
I'm sorry. I know it's hard, I love pets so much that I'd bring a million to my home but I realize that's not good for them. You made the right choice, even if it sucks!
