we just switched to CenturyLink and I'm SO happy. Our bill will literally be less than HALF as much for the first year and about 40% less after that. Plus their customer service was awesome. I didn't realize that we didn't switch before because for some reason we couldn't get their fast internet where we live now (Comcast was the only option at the speed H wanted). And H said that it was never even really all that fast when he did the speed tests. Reason #586 why I'm happy we are moving
We might be switching too. Do they have cable box/DVR capabilites, too? It'd be nice to save some money.
no idea, we're just getting internet and don't have DVR or cable, but like I said their customer service was super! I did the online chat and it was great.
Hmm, If you don't mind posting, how much is internet?
not a problem:
- currently we pay about $80/month for internet. It's a freaking rip-off and it's not nearly as fast as they say it is (H has done the online tests). I still don't understand why it should cost that much.
- CenturyLink has a 1-year deal where it will cost $34.95/month and then when it goes to the regular price, it's still only $50/month. Technically the speed we are getting is slightly less that what we have with Comcast, but like I said, we aren't really getting the actual speed they tell us we are, so it will likely be better actually. And if we want to switch to the next level up, it's STILL cheaper than Comcast ($40 discount, $60 regular)
- Oh and also they gave us a 50% off deal on the modem, so instead of paying a monthly fee, we just bought it for less than the monthly fee would add up to in one year
I can't stand Comcast. Years ago I moved apartments. I called to get my internet address/location updated. They actually charged me an install fee. I was confused because no one ever came out, yet there is still this fee.
We have CenturyLink and we are very happy with it.

so true. unfortunately the customer service isn't great and I swear, every time I called I got a different answer/explanation for something. I tried to do the whole "do you want to compete with their price?" and they had no response.
$80/month!?! I'm *this close* to canceling cable, but I was going to keep the internet. I think ours is like $50/month. I considered Century Link but my brother said it's not very good. don't know why. So far you like the quality, speed, connection?
we move at the end of the month, so I won't know until then about all that - I'll give an update later if you like. Also, we wouldn't be switching if H wasn't sure, he's VERY picky about stuff like this because he uses the internet a lot (downloading, gaming etc). We didn't switch before because like I said, we couldn't get the CenturyLink fast speed, it just wasn't an option at our current apt. So possibly it depends on where you live.
CenturyLink has fast options of 12Mb (what we're getting), 20Mb and 40Mb (and less than those). Supposedly we were getting 15-20Mb with Comcast, but H said the tests showed it was MUCH lower than that and we had lots of problems. If CenturyLink actually runs at the advertised speed, it will probably be faster than what we are really getting from Comcast. And if it runs at 12 and that's too slow, we can get 20 for cheaper than Comcast and it would (hopefully) run better anyway. But I'll give an update
(and yes, I had to calm myself every month I had to pay that bill, it was just ridiculous)
I've never had a problem with Comcast - and we pay substantially less than most people it sound s like ($55 for tv and high speed Internet...) so I've never even looked around and any other options. In 10 years we've never had service issues either. I probably just jinxed it though...
at one point I think I asked everyone what they had and how much they paid, and we were definitely on the high end for a reason I cannot figure out. I would try calling, threatening to leave, asking for discounts and they wouldn't ever get lower. The only thing I can think of is that it all depends on where you live and maybe being inside the city they think they can jack up the price.
