Do they do a decent job with your exam?
My mom has drilled it into my head that you never go to a retail store to get glasses (although I have gotten some at Costco and it was fine), and I can just hear her in the back of my mind telling me I am going to ruin my eyes. lol

I get my prescription from a fancy specialist because I have really jacked up eyes, but my h has used Walmart and my mom has used target with no problem. I say use zenni because their glasses start at like ten bucks.

I got a pair from them a while back. They had a lot of styles and were cheaper than everywhere else when I looked. I got some kind of lightweight scratch resistant ones and they held up perfectly.

My Dad and DH have used them in the past with mixed results. The one my dad uses is great he's seen the same doc for years. The one DH went to it was always a different doc. They seemed to have a high turnover rate at that store. DH now goes to a local place that takes his insurance. Walmart did have a year guarantee on the glasses even if you broke them, they'd replace them the first year. www.walmart.com/cp/Walmart-Vision-Centers/1078944

Does your DH know of your intentions, young missy???
I have not mentioned it to him yet, no.
But part of why I was looking there is because he is working crazy hours and does not have time to go during normal business hours (and he is almost out of contacts).
I *think* the optometrists that set up shop in Walmarts are independent business owners that just happen to have their office in Walmart.
This is correct. They aren't employed by Walmart. They lease the space from Walmart, and I think Walmart gets a cut of the glasses sales, but the optometrist offices are independently owned and run.
I have gone to both Target and Walmart for exams. I had great service at Target. Walmart shipped my contacts to the wrong place, but they did fix that mistake and paid to have them shipped to where I was. They drs are board certified and independent. I have bought frames from Walmart with no issue, but I mostly wear contacts, so I wanted cheap frames.
I have no vision insurance and I (and DH) use Wal Mart with no problems. They were great when we were on vacation and DH lost his only pair of contacts and they gave him another set for free (even though his prescription expired).
