We're going to be painting our kitchen cabinets soon and are having trouble deciding on a color. DH wants to do a gray/beige color and I'm leaning more towards white or a very light cream color. I worry that choosing too dark of a color will make the room feel small and dark, since it's not a huge kitchen to begin with.
So, if you have painted your kitchen cabinets, what color did you choose and why? Also, any other tips for this process are appreciated - we've never done this before!
I painted our cabinets in March - West Coat. A vibrant, striking blue. Then we took down walls and put down hardwoods. The blue cabinets just didn't work in the open space. So I repainted the cabinets (UGH!) dove white. They look much better now - I put a similar color to West Coast on the wall. I know it's the safe bet, but believe me, you don't want to be repainting cabinets.
I am struggling with the same decision right now, and woke up thinking about cabinet colors this morning.lol
Our small kitchen is open to the eating area and family room. We have kind of medium brown floors, and the other end of the space has a fireplace with a large two tone espresso/medium dark brown mantel that is pretty substantial, so whatever we decide needs to work with that end of the space. All white or cream wouldn't really work in the space, but neither would all dark cabinets.
I am considering going darker for the lower cabinets but keeping the uppers light so that the space feels open but still relates to the other end of the space. I probably could go with white for the uppers, since were planning to use white for the trim and staircase, but I would keep it soft and not a bright white. I am thinking that fairly light gray or maybe taupe might be options as well.

We did SW Pearl Gray in our Ohio house. Loved the color. It was light and bright, but not blinding and was definitely gray enough to not look just dirty.
We have a small kitchen too with not a lot of natural light. We painted the cabinets white; Benjamin Moore, Moon Rise. I had a million white paint chips and that was the one that went best with the white of our appliances.
we are going to be painting our cabinets BM Fieldstone. I originally wanted white (BM Chantilly Lace), but we are doing white carrara marble counters and I don't want it to be too white.
Fieldstone:
other choices were Martha Stewart Ocean Floor, Sharkey Gray and Nimbus Cloud.
