I just started a new job and am getting the hang of their dress code. It's technically business casual with jeans on Fridays.
However, I've seen people in dark jeans dressed up with heels walking around on days other than Friday. Yesterday I also saw someone wearing corduroys with boots (think fryes) and a cardigan.
So if you were me, are these things you'd consider wearing, if others are?
Unless jeans are specifically ok'd on non-Fridays, I would personally wait awhile before joining the jeans-during-the-week crowd. Until you get a really good feel for their culture.
You don't want to be the new girl wearing jeans on a Monday when a "Just a reminder - jeans are only ok on Fridays" email goes out.
I wouldn't. I'm not as certain about corduroy, since this is the first year I recall them being trendy since I was fairly young and I don't own any...but jeans are not business casual in my office.
Our definition is that cords would be okay, non-blue trouser like jeans are pushing it. But if jeans Fridays are specified, they probably aren't okay during the week.
I think cords are fine, jeans are not. This is the problem - one person does it, so others think it's o.k. and then people get too casual. I actually worked in a location once where we went casual - but still w/ an expectation of "you're coming to work - dress like it" (I'd wear jeans most days, but always w/ a nice top and shoes). but people started showing up in sweats, ratty jeans and tennis shoes, etc. The big boss got pissed and we went back to business casual. I didn't blame him one bit! People took advantage.
Although we have a similar dress code (business casual with casual Fridays), I do see people occasionally wearing jeans on a day other than Friday. It took me three years before I felt comfortable enough to slip on a pair of jeans (nice dark trouser jeans) on a random Tuesday (and only when I don't have any meetings).
I think as long as you can still look pulled-together and professional, you can get away with it. With a new job, however, I would wait a while before attempting this.
If you still feel new def don't go the jeans route.
I've been at my new job since June and I have a feel for what the office culture is now. I am perfectly comfortable wearing jeans (with nicer items) on regular days now. I don't do it often, but I know I won't be looked down upon for doing it.
My office is business casual with jeans Friday. I've been here 4 years and generally only see people wear cords on Fridays. Agree with a PP that I consider them less "business-y" than a nice pair of dark jeans.

for now Jeans only on Friday and then cords would be okay to me for business casual any day of the week.
but our office is supposed to have jeans on Wed/Fri - but it's kind of unwritten and some people wear jeans and tevas (with socks!!) and Disney t-shirts every day. or leggings with high heels and a short shirt. blech. so if you walked into our "business casual" office - you'd be really confused!

No. Wait awhile and see before pushing it. We have people in jeans walking around but they work on the research side. If you see patients, that's not tolerated.
