I just "fixed" our naptime pocket leak issues by upping absorbancy, mostly by using the Blueberry combo inserts, but LO is now sleeping on her side sometimes and now we're having issues again. If a pocket isn't completely "filled" to the sides, will that cause more of a leak issue? The Blueberry inserts shrunk like crazy and no longer completely fill the pocket, and my other main pocket right now, Smartipants, has a pocket sleeve, instead of a normal pocket, so there's a small gap between where the sleeve ends and where the leg elastic begins.
We switched to using trifolds with an insert wrapped in and a fleece on top and that seemed to fix it, but then when we tried out our new Capri cover yesterday (the size 1 Thirsties are getting close to being too small and we're trying to find a replacement we like) and had a leak, although that might be a fit issue.

The first thing I would try is a thin layer of flannel on the inside of the diaper. Over stuffed pockets can leak out the sides because of small gaps around the legs. The flannel should catch the urine so it can absorb into the inserts (stay dry fabrics need pressure to absorb which doesn't always happen fast enough for side sleepers).
If that doesn't work, I would try a good quality fitted. Truthfully, I think fitteds are a better option anyway if you don't mind buying something new.

The pocket isn't actually overstuffed (the combo inserts are absorbing but not soaked when removed, so I also don't think it's an absorbancy issue), but thanks for the flannel advice. I will have to give that a try.
Yeah, we use fitteds for overnight w/o leak issues, but I really don't want to pony up for all new dipes at this point. And as much as I like the absorbancy power of a fitted, she's still an under 15 pound peanut and the fitted are just so bulky on her.
ETA: In my OP, what I meant by "filled to the sides" was that the combo insert is now narrower than the pocket, due to shrinkage.

In a pinch I've found that a trifolded hemp prefold with a good cover will work for our tummy/sidesleeper, but the only thing that has never ever leaked is a fitted with wool.
I think with a side sleeper unless there is a good amount of absorbency on the sides, there's always a chance of leakage.
