I will preface this by saying I have never shopped black Friday, never have cared to, so I pay little attention to how good the promotions are, but common sense tells me they are pretty good otherwise people would go nuts over it.
DH and I just moved into our new place, and when we moved from CA to DC, we sold all our earthly possessions (pretty much). We have basically bought everything we need now, except a tv. I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to wait until BF to buy the TV, or if it is such a clusterfuck, I am better off just buying now.
FWIW, we are thinking we want a smart tv, so that might limit the options, though our hearts aren't set on it. Also, I'd pretty much be stuck to shopping at best buy or Costco due to location and lack of transportation.
So, those of you who do do the black Friday stuff, is it worth it to try and get a tv deal?
I'd personally wait and buy a TV on BF. There's BF deals online so you don't have to deal with the store crazies.
I love BF but will only go in my grandparents small town otherwise I can't deal with the crazy. And SLC is much smaller than DC so I'd imagine it's much more craze.
But I'd check out online BF deals and you'd probably save a $100+ and might get a free DVD player or something.

Wait and do cyber Monday in your underwear instead.
Seriously, though, as a BF shopper, the big ticket items like TVs are very limited - you have to camp out to get one of the super cheap ones and that just isn't worth it.
I vote cyber Monday or just stalk sales until you find what you want. I don't think waiting outside, on line and freezing on Black Friday is worth it even if there are loads of people doing it. My time (eta: and sanity) is worth more money than I'd be saving.
Alrighty then...sounds like BF sucks ass as I suspected. I'll watch deals now, and buy if I find something I like fir a good price...if not, cyber Monday it is! Thanks all!
Buy now. There was something on the news the other day about BF deals not being such great deals. As someone said the big ticket items are very limited and then you end up purchasing a more expensive model - they suck you in.
The news story said that there are good deals out there now and they really won't be getting too much better.

Cyber Monday is a marketing ploy, most everything is available online on BF is not even for ordering on thanksgiving. At least for the non- big ticket items. Stalk sites like slickdeals and the black Friday ad sites to get a feel for what will be available.
Wait until black friday and check out dealnews.com. They do great coverage of the sales and will let you know where to find the best deals online. I wouldn't go to the store, but in the last couple of years retailers have been moving more and more of their sales online. Most of them even start on Thanksgiving Day now.
Buy now, black Friday is still a long way away. When we bought our new tv not too long ago I found the best deal on Amazon. Might look there and they'd deliver so you don't have to haul it home.
We stalked ads and bought our TV the wknd before Thanksgiving. It was on sale that week. BF it dropped $100 more, but we thought for the hassel/driving/wait, that extra $100 was worth it
