I had a friend growing up. Her family was super tight with another family that had a son about her age. They went on vacation together and all the kids played together. I remember my friend always saying that the son was like her brother. I went to various events with both families and always thought of him like that - my friend's relative. They are married now, and to be honest, I'm a little weirded out by it, even though they were never related and never thought they were related.
Also I have always found it gross in Clueless when Cher dates her ex-stepbrother. There was also a similar incident in the show Brothers & Sisters, and it totally weirds me out.

Perhaps this makes me strange.
Dexter had a plotline like this last season, which I thought was awful (his sister through adoption developed feelings for him).
And I swear that nip/tuck had some sort of incest plotline, but maybe it just *sounds* like a nip/tuck plotline.
You would rather find out that you've been boning your brother??
I mean, I think #1 is gross, but I can't imagine finding out years later that the guys whose ween I've been sucking is my bro.
I believe pretty strongly in nurture over nature with these kinds of things. Your family and siblings are the people who you were nurtured with. Even if you are not blood relations, that bond is still there. If you never had the bond to begin with, it doesn't weird me out as much.
People that can transcend years of familial feelings and suddenly cream their pants over their brother....ew.

#1 for sure.
Clueless is loosely based off of Jane Austin's Emma. In Emma, she ends up with a very close family friend who she didn't think of romantically at first because he was a brother-like figure. Clueless takes it a little too far into the ick factor.

#1. I don't have a brother but I couldn't imagine marrying someone I grew up believing was a sibling. If I put it into context with my cousin, it would be SO weird. I couldn't imagine going to family things together and being like "oh, it's totally ok, we're not REALLY related even though we thought we were for most of our lives!" Imagine being friends with a brother and sister as a kid and finding out they got married later on - can't say you wouldn't find that TOTALLY crazy!
#2 is really sad and unfortunate. I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation. Probably divorce though for the sake of our future kids. Plus I probably wouldn't be able to get it out of my head that it was my own brother. Ugh.
1 is gross. My brother used to smear poo on the wall. I can't think of him in any other way.
2 would be sad but if we didn't have kids I would probably stay with him because I believe in nurture more than nature. Luckily H is 5 months younger than me so Im confident we're not related.
I can't believe people would stay married! I love my SO, but our romantic relationship would be over in a hot second if I found out we were blood-related (cousins, siblings - whatever).
There was an episode of Grey's Anatomy where scenario two happened. I think one of them was sick and he had this disease where only blood relatives would be able to help donate some bodily something or other. It turned out that they figured out that they were related. It was pretty fucked up and sad.
Scenario one happened with Dexter, though it seems that story line was pretty short lived
That said, I think from an outside perspective that it's pretty insane to marry someone you always assumed you were related to, even if you weren't. But from within the picture I would be so skeeved out if I found out H was my brother. SO SO skeeved.

I don't find either gross. If I found out DH was my brother, it wouldn't make any difference to me except in so far as the method I'd want to use to get pregnant.
