I went on an interview about 3 weeks ago. The hiring manager said that she thought I interviewed well and that they'd be in touch regarding setting up a second interview within the next week. She called my references later that day.
A week went by and then I received an email from her stating that I was still being considered for the job, that they were just finishing up some initial intervies, and she reiterated that she'd be in touch soon regarding a second interview. That was a week and a half ago and I haven't heard from her since (it's now been 2.5 weeks since my interview).
Should I follow-up with her to see if I'm still being considered? If so, should I call her or email since that is how we've communicated thus far? How would i best phrase an email like this?
Everything seemed so promising when I've spoked with the hiring manager in the past that I'm just surprised to not have heard anything, good or bad, at this point. She kept mentioning that she wanted to bring me in for another interview but now I'm not sure if they've found another candidate they're more interested in or what
It probably won't hurt to follow-up but it's unlikely to help.
Interviewing is like dating--if both people want it to work it will happen and usually without a lot of struggle. And when it doesn't, they'll probably just stop calling and no amount of asking will really give you a good answer as to what happened.
