Honestly, have not been tailgating much in my life so I need suggestions. Will probably be about 12 people. The game is at noon and tailgating is 9-11:30. Here's what's being brought already.
Italian Sausage/Rolls/Condiments Bagels/Cream Cheese Lemon Pepper Wings Macaroni salad
So starches/meat are covered. The things I'm thinking off to round out the menu I fear won't be popular because they are more healthy then tailgate-y. Like I would love to do fruit like apples/caramel dip or veggies, but it's not a baby shower, it's a tail gate. Every dip or yummo thing I think (like buffalo chicken dip) I can't imagine eating that early in the morning.
Edit: I missed the time. If you're going for breakfast I vote fruit and that whipped dip. But it seems like most everyone else is doing lunch type food.
When I've done a morning tailgate, we do something like bagels (which you have covered) and/or muffins or donuts. There have also been eggs scrambled with a meat and potato, something called "monkey bread", and trail mix. I agree that things like buffalo dip are weird in the morning, and I'm honestly not sure about macaroni salad and wings that early either. Although some people eat all kinds of things at a morning tailgate. I'm no expert either.
I vote for fruit salad. If I were your fellow tailgater, I would be grateful not to have to eat wings and sausage at 9am. Melon, berries, and grapes - simple, breakfasty, and pretty.
Make these in muffin pans! Two batches make about 18 muffins. We make these a lot, using the base recipe (never add the butter) and throw in whatever cheese, veggies, and sometimes meat we have on hand. Spinach and feta is my fave.
apples and caramel dip sound amazing to me. it's only healthy-ish. the caramel totally cancels the good in the apples :-)
honestly, that menu sounds really heavy for the morning. i'd take something lighter/healthier to balance it out. what about some sort of fruit kabobs or something? grapes, stawberries, watermelon...
1 8oz pkg 1/3 less fat cream cheese 1 jar caramel ice cream sauce heath toffee bits
mix cream cheese with 1/2 the jar of caramel sauce with electric mixer. Spread in bowl top with the rest of the caramel sauce and then cover the top with heath toffee bits. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with apple wedges.
