I was told by my gyno that you can still have the shot as long as you get tested for it and the test is negative.
Im lazy and that gardasil is expensive here.
I am so upset by this. I tested negative for HPV, but my doc won't give me the vaccination. She seems to think it is for teenagers and young twenty-somethings only. I'd be pissed if I got it when it is preventable!
I would go to a different doctor
when I had HPV they tested for what type it was, and it was the more dangerous/cancer causing one that is covered by gardisil. I think they are working on a new vaccine that will cover more types. But still, if you can afford it it's better than nothing.
Valtrex doesn't necessarily = genital herpes. I have been on Valtrex for fever blisters in my mouth. I get them when I am fighting a cold or when I am very stressed. While they are related to the herpes virus, they are not sexually transmitted and I have been getting them since I was a kid (way before I was sexually active). Also, I was tested bot both herpes simplex 1 and 2 when I was pregnant and both came back negative.
I am sorry, but I have to disagree. You CAN transmit HSV1 (oral herpes) genitally. If you give someone oral sex while you are shedding (not even necessarily during an outbreak) they can get it on their genitals. It CAN be sexually transmitted.
IF it's actually caused by the actual herpes simplex 1 virus (which, mine are not). Some oral fever blisters are caused by a variety of viruses that are related to herpes virus, but are NOT the herpes virus (1 or 2). Many of those are not transmitted sexually. There are a lot of different types of the herpes virus that aren't the most commonly talked about 1 and 2. Chicken pox is, for example, a form of herpes, but is transmitted through the respiratory tract in most cases, not sexually.

Perhaps mine are more like canker sores (which are not caused by the herpes virus -- hence my tests for the virus being negative). Doctor always called them "fever blisters" so that's where my confusion came from.
But I still stand by my original point, which was finding valtrex does not always mean herpes. Valtrex is also used for treatment of the symptoms of chicken pox and shingles in adults.

I adore my Gyno. She's literally just around the corner from school which is a lot better than the hour drive I had to make before I moved here. She is impossible to book with, unless you book out three months or so.
I am too wary of the potential side effects to take Gardasil anyway, and was even when I was within the age limits.
