No joke, but the dog is terrified of this rain. Light rain she didn't like and would muddle through if coaxed, but this rain is freaking her out. Lucky me, this means she won't go to the bathroom.
I put her rain jacket on her, coaxing her into the back yard and she wouldn't move. I tried walking her, but she wouldn't move past the porch. I picked her up and walked her to the sidewalk and she started running back to the house. Then I put her in the front yard and she wouldn't move.
I spent a good 20 minutes going between the back yard, front yard and a walk without any luck. She hasn't gone for a few hours, so I know she can go. What do I do?
Link is like this too. Can you keep her on a leash, give her lots of treats, and then bring her right inside when she goes? Keep taking her out, and reward her immediately if she goes. She'll learn to tolerate it, but likely will never love it. Also, I forget, do you have her crated?
I have her on the leash and I took an umbrella out with us, but she won't even stand on all 4 legs. She keeps switching paws, but she only let's 3 legs touch the ground at a time. And she won't even bend down to sniff to go. I might be destined for a 3am rainy pee break? Sigh.
We have her crated during the day, but not at night.

I agree with eip's advice. Conan was none too pleased with me last night when I took him for his scheduled evening walk and it was pouring. But he needs to pee before we go to bed. My technique is to drag or carry him to the easy/close by peeing spot and say "go potty." He usually gets the hint and lifts his leg, then we race back home and he gets toweled off and a treat.
She has her raincoat to keep her dryish, but the cold puddles seem like they might be too much. She seems to have very sensitive skin (just like my human nephews). I would recommend trying some doggie rainboots. Perhaps keeping her feet warmer and drier would make it a little easier. That combined with the lots of treats, praise, and immediate drying/cuddling after she goes should help her get used to it, although like eip said, she'll probably never really like it.
Our little doggie was pretty smart. When it was raining, even though there was a big tree in our yard that she could go under and have a large area more protected from the drops, she would do a fake squat for 5 seconds and then pretend she had gone so she could come back inside.
i think that you have to just keep bringing her out. otherwise, the husky family might be adding an awning over their backyard or wherever she goes.. lol. she'll get used to it.

I've been spending a lot of my day researching how to build her a pee patch on our upper back deck that has some coverage.
So she's actually afraid of getting wet, or just afraid of the fact that it's raining/storming?
Our dogs start freaking out a couple hours before a storm/rain comes through. A few weeks ago, no joke, there was thunder and lightening all day, all night. Annie only went potty one time during a 15 minute period where it stopped. And I'm talking one time in the whole entire day! I continuously tried to let her out, stand in the grass with her, but she wanted no part in it. I tried laying a towel down in the garage (she likes peeing on plush surfaces), but she still didn't go. I had wished we had a pee patch as backup.
I have no clue what she's afraid of. She won't even go outside when it's raining hard.
We started classes with her and i asked the dog trainer about timand she said that we're just going to have to force it and give her lots of treats. :/
