One of the things that makes me sad is that it seems Halloween isn't as big a deal now as it was when I was a kid. Everyone is too afraid of razor blades in apples (mythical!) or child abductions (not mythical, but exceedingly rare) or something else.
Now that we live in a more residential/kid friendly neighborhood we were thinking of putting up decorations and stuff. But I don't know if we should target 10/31 or make sure they're in place the weekend before.
So what does your neighborhood do for trick-or-treating?
I've never had trick-or-treaters on any day other than 10/31. But, there are never as many as I expect. Our neighborhood starts pretty early w/ the little kids, and then older kids come out when it's dark. Everyone's done by around 9.

Our old house we would get 4 trick or treaters on a good night. We moved just 3/4 mile west and we get close to 100 now. Most come after sunset. Before sunset everyone goes down into Ballard where the stores hand out candy.
I voted SS because we've only spent one Halloween in our neighborhood so far. I cant' remember if the holiday was on a weeknight or not? I've never known anyone to go Trick or Treating in residential neighborhoods any other day just because it doesn't happen on the weekend. That seems REALLY dumb. Although I get it for business/community events at least.
I think the majority last year came just at dusk and a little after and was completely done by 9pm.
Maybe its different in big cities/towns? I came from a smaller town (approx 10,000) and Halloween was always had lots of trick or treaters, but its hard to know if its because it was a smaller town, the 80s-mid 90s, or because my mom was a teacher so the school kids (and parents) know she was safe?
I live in an apartment and no one comes here. We didn't get trick or treaters when I was growing up either because we lived down a long dark driveway. Most of the island does both though. We will probably just take Edmund to either downtown Winslow or downtown Poulsbo to go trick or treating there.

Our building is full of fur kids, not human kids. We do have a couple families with babies (which would be super fun if we caught glimpses of them dressed up!) and a lady who adopted a middle school aged boy a couple years back, but nobody trick or treats. There are very few kids in our neighborhood in general, and our building is secured, so we've never had trick or treaters.
i live in apartments and we have kids... buti live on the 3rd floor and i don't think parents let their kids come up here.. that or i worked last year and i dont remember..

niq, are you in Greenwood? I have friends who live in Greenwood (near Greenwood Elementary) and they get a good number of kids on Halloween (on the actual day).

Yes, but we're on one of the bigger roads, so that's a point against.
It sounds like we're going to go to BIL's house in Wallingford, they definitely have kids there.
We get no trick or treaters. We are down a private drive and no one comes down to our house. H still decorates the yard for Halloween though. I can only imagine what he would do if we actually got kids at the house.

We don't get trick-or-treaters in my condo community, since we live across the road from Seahawk homes. They can just go to the gigantic houses where they get regular-size candy bars at every house.
We're taking M to Gilman Village on Wednesday, though, to go t-o-ting.
I really need to ask some one about our neighbourhood.
Last year, we took the kids trick or treating at Amazon, and on the way home, planned to go door to door a bit. We're in the 'burbs, very family friendly neighbourhood. But in driving through, we didn't see a single trick or treater out! And that would have been at about 6:00.
And we only had, maybe, 4 but we're up a really, really steep hill at the top of a cul de sac so I wouldn't judge that as being accurate for the neighbourhood.
Maybe we'll head over to the elementary school this year? Some of the houses around there are super decorated - wouldn't you think that indicates trick or treaters?
And as an aside, kinda, I think it's really sad that it's not the same as when we were kids. My parents used to get 150 kids while we were out trick or treating. The streets were just PACKED. It was SO much fun!

I hadn't ever either. But when I lived in AZ, a good friend of mine is Mormon, and lives in a neighborhood that has a heavy Mormon population. They trick or treated in their neighborhood the Saturday before Halloween. I thought it was odd, but it seemed to work for them...
