I ran my second 7 mile run today, and my pace was 36secs/mile less than last week even though I was running on a shitty uneven trail with lots of loose sand (instead of nice, even pavement).
I think it was because it was 20 degrees cooler this morning than it is when I normally run in the evening.
What was your time? I always seem to do better when it's overcast. I hate trail running and know my time is massively slower if I'm not on nice pavement!

Slow.
Just faster than last time.
I have been really struggling with my speed since moving to the high desert a few months ago, and this run was finally at the slow end of my previous normal range.

I'm a 'slow and steady' runner - I just aim to make the distance, not break any WRs. (As if...)
You live in the desert? I did a 10K on sand earlier in this year and thought I was going to lose the plot. Give me tarmac any day!
Yeah, I live in Albuquerque. 5300 ft and dryyyyyyyyyyy.
I used to live in Wisconsin.
Confession - I don't live in the States. Flame away for this, but is the climate in Albuquerque anything like Arizona? I've just come back from a tour of the US that included some of the western parts (aka the hottest places I've ever been) and could never imagine running there!
That's an impressive improvement, Doc! I just did my first 7 miler on Tuesday...it felt really good, but that last mile was hard (my usual is 6 miles). I was training for a 15k but I waited too long to register and now there are no spots left
And man, I can't believe you run in the desert heat. Do you carry a shitton of water?
I love the cooler weather for running! I hate trail runs when it's hot out because of the humidity the plants put off. It's so muggy and hard to breathe when it's like that. Good job with your 7 miles! I got my first decent run in today after not so much as a ten minute run in WEEKS.
Oh, and I LOVE trail runs! It's so much easier on your body. Plus, for me, when I train on trails and then race on asphalt, I'm way faster. Oh and alsoalso, way prettier scenery and no car fumes.

I am planning to do the remainder of my long runs on the trial, for this reason. My last mile was just as fast as my first, I think because it was almost all on pavement (on my way home).
I am doing a 15k in a couple of weeks and a half on Nov. 24th. First time for both.

It's not that hot where I live because of the altitude. Today the high was probably 75. It's hotter in the summer, but not Phoenix hot or anything.
I do carry water though, because it is so dry. I carry a little bit of water on anything over 3 miles.

Thanks! Really looking forward to it. I did the same race last year, but the 5k instead of the 15k. It was my first one and 5k was absolutely at the limit of my abilities (I started running in July of last year).
This year I'm doing the 15k with my friends and am pretty excited and nervous.
40? jfc that's cold. I find a nice 60-65 is the best. Cloudy is even better. My theory is that they start all the races at 6:30am bc it's cool outside, you're done in time for brunch and less people on the road to run your ass over
Oddly enough, I enjoy either cool weather or hotter than balls. There's nothing more satisfying than knocking off 5 miles in 100+ degrees. Anything below 40 though and I'm like fuck that.
Yes, running in heat makes me feel badass. Then sick. But still badass.
I have a hard time warming up properly if it is too cold.

I love it when it's 10-20 out and lightly snowing, or heavily snowing fluffy snow. My threshold is 0-5, or blizzards-- never again will h talk me into going in a blizzard.
