i have an old friend from HS...didn't even realize we were still friends on fb...he doesn't use it. major pot head. he just posted "vote no on i-502". his gf just basically outted them on FB that they grow/sell...
she wrote "think about what it would do to me and X" "we can't have grow lamps anymore"....and she wrote "i smoke and drive all the time, no problems".
1. she's a dummy.
2. she's a really big dummy.
3. i'm deleting him as a friend on fb. don't need to be associated with dealers.
4. how are you voting? why or why not? i heavily lean toward NO, but can be persuaded.
hmm.. i don't know how to vote.. because on one hand, i'd like it to be taxed the shit out of so people have to pay taxes on it.. but on the other hand, i REALLY don't want it to be legal. this is just my opinion. i haven't turned in my ballot for a few reasons.. but this is one.. it'd be nice if the distribution of it would be managed more but i'm not sure that's the case.
plus.. i feel like if we legalize it.. eventually teachers/bus drivers/police officers will be able to do it on the job.. and i don't want that to happen. maybe it won't ever get that far but i get nervous that it will..
i have questions on some of the other ones and even reading the little blurps about them didn't really help me to decide. ah, voting is hard.
I'm just going to assume they don't have a license to grow/dispense medical marijuana?
You're much more conservative on these issues than I am, but I voted yes. I hate how we treat minor drug offenses and IMO it should be treated as a public health problem and not a criminal problem. I don't use marijuana nor do I have a desire to, but if someone does it should be treated as any other "sin" and taxed the hell out of.

Does anyone listen to talk radio? I listen to KIRO 97.3 on occasion - I really like Dave Ross & Luke Burbank. Anyway, I'm working from home today and am listening to Dory Monsen (sp?). He's pretty conservative and he just said now (good timing Jennlin!) that he's voting yes on legalizing it.
but how can those who smoke it like crazy get taxed the hell out of whent hey're already getting it, for the most part, from people who sell it/grow it illegally? that is what i worry about.
agreed that it is similar to marijuana.. i just don't want everyone i know to be able to do it because it's legal.. hopefully those that don't still won't.

Honestly, I think many people would be surprised by who smokes marijuana - including people they know that they wouldn't suspect of doing it. I know quite a few people who work in professional white collar type jobs that smoke on occasion. And I know a few people who smoke it more than just occasionally.
I'm sure my view is skewed by the fact that I went to a college with the nickname Groovy UV.

I don't view marijuana any differently than alcohol - except for the fact that it is illegal.
There is no way it would then be okay for teachers/bus drivers/police officers to do it on the job. Just like they can't drink on the job.
+1
I haven't read the fine point of the referendum (or is it initiative? whatevs) yet so don't know how I'm voting just because I need to see how it's constructed.
oh yeah..my other question is... i've read a lot that the federal law will still make it illegal, and the state law can't change that. so what's the point?

There was a story on 60 Minutes last night about the marijuana votes coming up here and in Colorado. They were saying one way the feds are working to limit access is through the banks, and notifying the banks that if they lend to dispensaries they could be in violation of money laundering statutes.
But as jennuinne says, I think the goal would be to increase the states where it is legal so the feds would reconsider the federal law.

This is my issue with it.
I think even with high taxes, legal pot would be much cheaper than medial marijuana or illegal pot.
Yes for pot. If I am going to have 4-5 pot stores within a mile of my house, I wanna go to one dammit.
I hear they're against it, since they're worried it will kill their business model. If that means fewer shops and more space for other retail then I'm all for it.
