We went to a super great shelter two hours from home today to see what they had available for adoption. We're still wanting two kittens.
They have such fast turn over there it's pretty impossible to find the same cats online and in the shelter. We got there and the only kitten they had was one with the mom - who wasn't up for adoption. *whomp whomp*
But the shelter works with Petsmart to adopt out cats and had some in the stores. The first store had a pair of kittens (one boy and one girl - not what we wanted but we'd have taken them) and didn't get them because there was a pending application.
The next Petsmart had zero kittens.
I've been watching our local paper and they have had no kittens. I've been watching the paper for the huge town two hours away and they had ONE adult cat. That's it. For like.. a month.
I really didn't think it would be this difficult to find a pair of kittens. I'm glad that there isn't an abundance of homeless cats in our area - but sheesh.
Tomorrow I'm going to look at a pair of kittens that a friend let us know about 45 minutes away that his SIL has.
When we went to adopt a dog, I had my heart set on an older, quiet golden retriever mix. Turns out, he HATED me..Growled and hid from me. So I was broken hearted until we found Lillie sitting pretty in her little cage waiting for us . I'm sure this will happen to y'all

You need to come to my city. There is a ridiculous amount of cats here, for real. I don't know about the shelters, but they're everywhere else and keep reproducing.
DH and I play a "How many cats will we see today?" game anytime we go somewhere.
I hope you find some kittens soon. If not, I'll Fed Ex a few to you.

Too bad you don't live near me. My mom's "adopted" outside cat just had another litter. The rescue's had a heck of a time trying to trap this poor thing to get her fixed.
This is bewildering to me that you can't find a pair of kittens. We are overflowing with them so bad, so many that need to be bottle fed and we are in short supply of fosters.

I'm so glad that we don't have an abundance of strays or unwanted kittens. Our neighborhood does have several 'outside' cats, which drives me crazy because I worry about their safety, but they are fixed and do have collars and their shots and plenty of food and such.. so it's better than being flat out homeless.
Where do you live? It sounds like Heaven to me! Seriously, we are up to our eyeballs in homeless cats and kittens ( as well as dogs/puppies) I just had a litter of 3 kittens dumped off ON my property by some asshhole who was too chicken shit to take them to the shelter I guess. I've gotten several calls from people finding kittens. One in a parking lot, one under their house.
I live in central Virginia. If you are anywhere close to there, you can take-a-you pick on kitties! PM me or post here if you want. I volunteer with a rescue.
I'm thinking you can't be close to me or anywhere in the south though. Good luck with your search. You'll find somebody who needs a good home!
We're in Iowa. Up until this year we've always seen a lot of cats & kittens around.
I finally resorted to asking friends if they knew anyone who had unwanted kittens and we found some young ones that were being taken care of on a farm about 45 minutes from us.
They were glad to find a home for them and we were happy to get some new family members.
