We bought a washer last November. It started making this weird rubbing noise a couple months ago. That stopped and then recently started making a grinding noise. It's still technically under waranty, but like an idiot, I threw the receipt away (or can't find it). I have the credit card bill from lowes, but again, like an idiot, I only kept the top page with the summary on it, not the details. I have tried both going into the store to request a copy of the receipt (they can only access them for a short amount of time), and called. Neither can actually pull up the receipt, they have to put a request in that it gets mailed/emailed to me with a window. Both of these windows have passed and no receipt. I also called the credit card 800 #, but they only keep statements for 10 months?! My washer is so loud today it's giving me a head ache. With the boy and the pets, we have lots of laundry. Tman wears a uniform to school, too, so I have to be able to use the washer.
Anyway, I ended up making a service call appointment for tomorrow. I'm so irritated that we have to pay to have a washer repaired that is less than a year old. It's my fault for not keeping the receipt, but I wish lowes would have been able to help out with that.
Fingers crossed that it doesn't cost a lot to fix - oh, but I'm pretty sure it's going to.
call your credit card company. i know for sure visa, and amex "doubles" your warranty. tell them when you bought it, and they'll pay for repairs. we've done this before for our fridge, when we were 2 months past warranty. i don't remember how much detail they had/needed, but it's worth a shot.

we used the lowes credit card - stupid lowes (I'm trying really hard to blame them instead of accepting blame myself).
