What are your child's favorite toys? People are starting to ask me for Christmas ideas for DD and I am stumped. What are you getting your child for Christmas?
The art table it out biggest time suck. For both my 4 y/o DD and 7 y/o DS. So we usually ask for art supplies. We go through them fast and don't have to make space for a bunch of toys they don't need.
Last Christmas (DD was 3), she got a lot of dress-up clothes.
This year, she wants a Barbie styling head, like the one I had when I was a kid. She is also very, very, very into Playmobil figures. And American Girl Bitty Baby and regular-size AG stuff.
For his 4th birthday, DS1 wanted nothing but Playmobil. He was obsessed. By the following Christmas (when he was around 4.5), he still liked Playmobil and was also really into Transformers. Dress up clothes and board games (Zingo, Candyland, the Richard Scarry games, Chutes and Ladders, etc.) were also big, along with building toys (wooden blocks, Lincoln Logs, Magnatiles). He got some walkies talkies that Christmas that were a big hit.
She already got her birthday gift-- a doll house for Barbies (I know i know, she looooves them)- we used it as a potty training bribe. it worked!
For Hanukkah/Christmas, some ideas--art supplies, books, games for her Leappad (hoping she starts liking this better than the iPad), a Ken doll, Dora toys, dress up clothes, and dress up makeup, so she stops playing with mine! Possibly getting the iPad mini, but not sure, i think we'll try to push her towards the Leappad.
My gal was about that age last Christmas. I made her an art/craft supply box (watercolors, felt, pom-poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, colored tape, gluesticks, stickers, colored feathers, glitter glue, etc.) that was a huge hit. She also liked the board games she got (Uncle Wiggly and Animal Upon Animal) and the wood unit blocks. Puzzles and books were good too.
Imaginative play is huge at that age. So much fun. Legos are a big hit at our house, as are play-doh and dressing up/ costumes.
Your little one is about the perfect age for games like Candyland, like PP mentioned.
The book Big Rabbit's Bad Mood by Ramona Badescu is a favorite at our house, starting around 3 years old. A very silly book.
Also, if you don't have it yet, the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD is great. My 4.5 year old still thinks it is funny (and is now catching the subtle jokes) and it seemed like it solidified his letter sounds for him when he was in the 3 year old range.
Her sisters...lol. I have no clue what to get her. She likes to play with figures (little princesses, Playmobil, barbies, etc). She likes dress up too.
All the above, plus DD LOVES to bake, and has been begging for this Betty Crocker magazine things that she keeps seeing at Target and the grocery store, so she is getting that plus the ingredients and her *own* supplies (bowl, spatula, whisk, etc) to make some of the recipes.
Oh, and I am totally being a sucker and buying her some of the McKenna AG accessories
Train table, race track, anything related to Disney's Cars and Chuggington trains, play kitchen, dress up stuff, tricycle, play dough, art supplies
A good idea for grandparents and relatives if they are looking for something to get might be family memberships to the zoo, children's museum, science museum, etc.
