I was really torn on this one, especially since I don't have a vested interest in this. I almost didn't vote for this because I didn't know how to vote and I don't have kids. However, after talking to a few teacher friends and h's brother no has a school aged kid I decided to vote no. I've yet to talk to a person who is for this....
Ditto UW. I've been seeking out teacher opinions on this, and all I've heard is no. I'd rather hear the opinion of a teacher who is in a classroom full of kids every day than that of a politician.

No. 99% of Washington students would not be able to attend a charter school if it were to pass. Not equitable at all!!
Is this the only reason why you are voting No? Is there anything positive about charter schools? Will there ever be an opportunity to have a good amount of charter school available to students in Washington?

Is it true that charter schools would pull funding away from existing public schools? This is probably a dumb question, but that's what I've been hearing. I know the schools are already underfunded.

You don't need to sway my vote further since I voted no and have mailed in my ballot, but for my own curiosity can you elaborate on this more? Also, is there ever an instance that you would support charter schools?

from what i read, yes, it would pull away from existing funds for public schools.

This is how I understood it too. This was the biggest reason why I was leaning towards no, but everyone else pushed me over the edge.
I have seen charter schools be successful in other states. Public schools still received funding and students that attended the charter schools excelled where they were failing in other schools.

:Y: my nieces and nephew are currently attending a charter school in Florida for the first time this school year and they are doing so much better! And the teachers are so caring about their students success. I'm not saying that there are only good teachers in charter school but we feel content with this charter school. But Florida is another state so that's why I really want to get all the information I can before finalizing my vote in Washington.

I am for charter schools, I just don't think this is enough
From what happened in my home town, it didn't provide better education than the public schools. People say it provides alternates for students who don't learn well in a traditional setting...well I know Seattle and Renton both have alternative public schools for just that reason.
