This may be flammable and no quotes because I may delete this later
A girl I know from HS just posted on her FB feed, asking for help with paying for an upcoming surgery. I know times are hard, but won't most hospitals work a payment plan if the patient has troubles? I'm am totally side eye this chick because that just seems so tacky. Plus I don't think I could ask my FB friends to help me with bills, I have more pride than that.
First, it depends on what it's for. Diagnosed with cancer, I'm sympathetic. Something less serious, I'm less sympathetic.
And, I agree FB is not the way to do this, especially for yourself. If SOMEONE ELSE offers to solicit, hold a fundraiser, etc., that's one thing. And, yes, I'm pretty sure all hospitals have payment plans and you can apply to have some of your fees waived.

This. I've seen Events created by someone other than the $ recipient for health related expenses, if a family lost a home in a fire, etc. I don't judge that, but I would judge someone trying to get $ via FB for themselves.

This week there have been a lot of request flying around asking for donations for a Seattle bartender that has a heart condition and needs surgery. A PayPal account was set up for donations and a number of bars are doing events to help him raise money. All of this is being done on his behalf he is not doing the fundraising but it sounds like he is aware of it.
