tickets4tonight has booths all over the strip. We've scored some pretty good tickets last minute to shows. A lot of the good restaurants have, really reasonably priced early and late happy hours.
for cheap, the first night you get there, stop by bellagio for the water show. it's every 15 minutes. if you catch the tail end, stay and watch the whole show. it's pretty cool if you've never seen it. if you have time, stop by the mirage volcano, too. it's kinda cool, but if you miss it, i wouldn't be too sad.
at night, cheap eats can be found basically anywhere. deals change all the time--last time i went, flamingo and hooters had amazing deals.
depending on what atmosphere you want, downtown (old) vegas is fun at night, too. they have the lightshow on fremont (free) and the food/drinks there is way cheaper. table minimums are less, too. during the day, though, it's pretty depressing.
since it's your first time there, walking around the casinos and just seeing the sights are fun and will probably take up most your time!
i think since it's your first time, i'd walk around and see all of the casinos. make sure to buy a margarita on the strip, eat lots of food, have fun. you must go to a buffet.. just because. otherwise, the pool at encore is really nice if you're looking for that. i think the weather is probably cooling down. i was there less than a month ago, we had a great time, didn't go to any shows, but still felt like we saw a ton! make sure to go to the fashion show mall and shop!
I agree with everyone elses suggestions. Have fun exploring the strip. You can take the monorail up to the north end and see the few hotels up there and then make your way back down. You will easily spend a full day going in and out of all the casinos. The hotels/casinos have so much to see.
If you are looking for cheaper table games, go to Bills between Flamingo and Ballys. It's an older casino but the drinks are strong and the table limits are low, like $5 low.
To save money on booze, swing by a Rite Aid or something and pick up a bottle.
