I just checked the three wedding registries for upcoming shower and ceremony. The largest of the three registries has five items on it. All the other items across the three registries are gift cards. Is this equivalent to asking for cash or is it okay since you registered?

ugh - I have a similar wedding shower to go to this weekend... I usually buy a gift for the shower and cash for the wedding. Their 'registry' has the most random stuff on it (a portable washer, a basket ball hoop & backboard, tools, water filters, a heated mattress pad, a $500 set of cookbooks).
I'm tempted to just go shopping and get them something useful because I fear they are morons.
Okay, full disclosure--I am planning the shower--do I say something to the bride?
I would probably play it dumb. Say "Oh, by the way, I have been getting a lot of questions about your registries. I think you need to review them and add some more stuff. People said they are getting low on items and they are trying to buy for the shower."

yes.
Ditto. People aren't going to come to a shower w/ a gift card. If she doesn't want gifts, she shouldn't have a shower. If she wants a shower, then she needs to register for stuff that she wants - OR to perhaps at least give her a higher chance of being able to return the stuff she doesn't want.
What she's going to get right now is a bunch of stuff that people are TOTALLY guessing at she'll like, and it will be VERY hit or miss if she gets any gift receipts.
