All of a sudden afraid of crib, what to do?

All of sudden this week DS will not go to bed in his crib. He screams, hyperventilates, and has a complete meltdown. All while pointing to the floor. Once he's on the floor he's out like a light.

I'm not sure if it's coincindental or not, but we took him to the doctor on Wednesday and he has a double ear infection. Is he somehow relating the pain from his ears to the crib?

We even tried to bring him in bed with us, and got the same meltdown.

I don't know what to do to get him back in his crib?

Any suggestions?

I bet the height of the crib/bed in conjunction with the ear infection is giving him vertigo. From WebMD, firstaid.webmd.com/understanding-dizziness-basics

Vertigo can be caused by many things:

Infection, such as the ones that cause the common cold or diarrhea, can cause temporary vertigo via an ear infection. This inner ear infection is generally viral, harmless, and goes away usually in one to six weeks, but drugs are available if it is severe.


So he's dizzy in the crib/bed, which scares him. I would let him sleep on the floor until he feels better. I would put his mattress on the floor, or if that still bothers him, put down a pad and some blankets.

We did try to put his mattress on the floor to no avail. Right now we're just doing blankets. So we'll keep at it for now.

No problem. I had a zillion ear infections as a child, and often suffered from vertigo. It's a terrible feeling, I don't blame him for being afraid.
