Piggybacking on the post from yesterday, I have a few more questions.
-What does a typical day of meals look like for those of you doing Paleo?
-What kind of research/reading did you do beforehand before beginning to eat this way?
-If you do go out to eat, what is an example of something you'd order? Mainly I'd be worried about sauces, etc and the unknown of something I didn't cook myself.
-How do you season/flavor your foods or are they mostly bland?
Piggybacking on the post from yesterday, I have a few more questions.
-What does a typical day of meals look like for those of you doing Paleo? Breakfast: Eggs or nut granola, Lunch: Leftovers from dinner. Dinner: Spaghetti squash and meatballs, stuffed peppers, eggplant lasagna, meatballs, and then with a side of veggies.
-What kind of research/reading did you do beforehand before beginning to eat this way?I read a lot of websites and studies. Basically I just felt like I didn't really "need" grains in my life.
-If you do go out to eat, what is an example of something you'd order? Mainly I'd be worried about sauces, etc and the unknown of something I didn't cook myself.I usually give myself a cheat meal when I'm out.
-How do you season/flavor your foods or are they mostly bland? You season and flavor them just like you would any other meal. Paleo doesn't really affect flavor you would add to food except for butter and soy sauce.

Thanks! Ok, one more question: I've heard that people get crazy skinny on it and I'm a little worried about that. What has been your experience with this?
I'm right at where I want to be right now so if I went Paleo it would be because I've heard you feel much better on it and it's just a good overall lifestyle. It wouldn't be for dieting purposes.

That's basically why I did it. I have the perpetual five pounds to lose, but it's all in my tummy, so I was hoping this would help reduce the bloat and just make me feel better. I don't feel like I've lost significant weight. The good thing is I'm not gaining and I don't have to count calories or really worry about all that stress. I find the meals really satisfying and yummy.
I think the key is to make sure you are eating higher fat foods like the avocados, cooking with olive oil, etc. That's hard for a lot of people to get used to and low-fat paleo really doesn't work.

I can imagine that it would be difficult to make sure you are getting ENOUGH calories which is where the high fat content foods come in.

Exactly. I tracked my calories for a while just to see my range and I was still between 1200-1500 most days. Difference being I wasn't obsessing, counting everything and still maintaining my weight.
I actually really, really like it. Even though I'm not 100percent.

Thanks for the info. I think it will take some getting used to but I'd like to try it, just to see how I feel after doing it for a month or so. I don't think I'd be 100% either. That would be really difficult I'm sure. Plus I love wine.

-What does a typical day of meals look like for those of you doing Paleo? Breakfast is a fruit smoothie with or without a side of protein (bacon, sausage). I have also made YUMMY breakfast casseroles before. Lunch: chicken and veggies or a salad. Dinner: meat and veggies and a sweet potato.
-What kind of research/reading did you do beforehand before beginning to eat this way? Ehhhh...not much....visited a few blogs, but I was pretty familiar with it already due to friends and crossfit
-If you do go out to eat, what is an example of something you'd order? Mainly I'd be worried about sauces, etc and the unknown of something I didn't cook myself. I get grilled protein (fish, red meat, chicken) and veggies. I really dont sweat the "unknown" in the sauces unless it spells it out on the menu.
-How do you season/flavor your foods or are they mostly bland?Paleo is DEFINITELY not bland. You can use basically ANY spice that is out there. Also there are marinades and salad dressings you can buy that are paleo.

Yes this is true. Cook with bacon grease or coconut oil. BACON, nuts, oils, etc are your FRIEND ;D

Most paleo people allow 1 glass of red wine a day.

-What does a typical day of meals look like for those of you doing Paleo?
Breakfast- 3 eggs scrambled with onion, bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms Snack- small portion of lunch Lunch- protein and veggies, either dinner leftovers or some chicken or ground beef or something that I've pre cooked. I keep lots of frozen veg at work Snack- small portion of lunch/dinner/whatever Dinner- Fish/chicken/beef with veggies. Green beans, carrots, brussel sprouts, whatever
-What kind of research/reading did you do beforehand before beginning to eat this way?
1- I am allergic to some grains, all dairy, and sugar so there really wasn't much to consider, I already can't eat most of what Paleo encourages you to avoid. I read a lot from Marks Daily Apple and many other Paleo websites.
-If you do go out to eat, what is an example of something you'd order? Mainly I'd be worried about sauces, etc and the unknown of something I didn't cook myself.
A salad, usually. Going out to eat and sticking to Paleo is tough, make it easier on yourself and don't sweat the small stuff.
-How do you season/flavor your foods or are they mostly bland? Paleo does not discourage herbs and seasonings. I also use a lot of balsamic, white wine and apple cider vinegars. I'm a big vinegar fan.
Honestly, I cook better tasting and more flavorful foods now than I did before I was Paleo.
I see Paleo as a starting point. If you stick to it most of the time and just add in a few things here and there, as long as you aren't reacting badly to the food, it's not an issue.
