Hmm...I would tend to label him as the lying liar who lies. How many different sites are you checking on?
Dude...guys lie ALL THE TIME. I went out with one dude who lied about his age to make himself 2 years younger because he said that women normally have their "cut off" at 35. He was 37. He said he didn't want to be "judged" for his age. The guy I went out with last night said that on his Match profile he is listed as single when he is really divorced. He said "I tell women on the first date but I find so many people negatively judge you just because you are divorced. It is easy to judge when it is just a picture and a profile. I would rather them meet me in person and then judge."
My response was: if someone is going to judge me like that upfront, then I guess I am not interested in them anyway, kwim?
ETA: I would totally ask him about it and guage his reaction.
If he did indeed lie, then I feel he's aiming for an age group he doesn't feel he can get at 46. HOnestly, "39" just sounds a lot younger and has a different feel than even "41", much less 46.
Which is why I feel he is lying. He knows what he's doing and he wants to come across as younger and attract a different crop of women.
Having never met him, don't know that I would pursue it. If I had met and there was a real connection, then maybe I'd try to figure it out
Yup, ECB is right. I listen to a radio talk show via podcasts and it's a psychologist who listens to whatever people have to say. And a 57 y/o woman was complaining that she couldn't find men her age online. They were either in their 70s or in their 30s. No man in his 50s or 60s. t's because men want to date women 10 to 15 years younger. If he lists himself as a 39 y/o he can get women in their 20s to talk to him. If he lists his real age, he will get mostly women in their late 30s or 40s.
When I first met my H he lied about his age, among other things I didn't think we're "big deals" at the time. Well it turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg! He ended up being the biggest lying liar pants I've ever encountered. I definitely felt dumb when I looked back and realized I'd ignored the red flags early on.
