This week the house across the street and to the left was broken into and ransacked. In my town, Town D.

Dude. We live in the middle of no where. Where sometimes bad things happen, but on a whole it's pretty decent.
Wtf is going on with people lately?!
It makes me uncomfortable; they figure for the ones that were on our street that it was the druggie teenagers down the road and around the corner. But they figure for Town C, that whomever robbed Bank A; also did houses A and B and Bank B.
ETA: I live in such a small place that only has like 50,000 people, so all of these towns are super close.

That sucks. And yeah, a lot of it's probably drug related. This is also why I cringe when people say "Oh, I dont worry about [insert safety issue] because I live in a quiet area/small town/etc". Unfortunately, bad things can happen anywhere and anytime

I'm not as trusting as some people; a lot of people we know don't even lock their doors at night.
I lock doors and don't go outside at night but that's usually where my paranoia ends.
A few weeks ago my neighbor mentioned that she heard what sounded like a car idling inbetween our houses. She assumed I had someone over. I said nope, wasn't me.
I had forgotten that I had heard the same thing. What sounded like a car idling right between our houses (our driveway; it's ours, but our neighbor and us, we share it). I figured it was her. I had looked out the window and didn't see anyone. No one had their car lights on or anything.
Turns out, we both heard this at around 3am, on a weeknight, and both described the same sounds.
We have a pact now that if we hear something like that again, we will call one another, no matter the time and both turn our lights off and look outside while on the phone. haha.
We do know that the "kids" (they're grown teenager) all the way at the end of our road walk the streets at night. We don't know why, but they do.
I'm SO glad we have a dog who is hyper aware and will bark at people she senses outside.
