Just finished my yearly. The doctor and I discussed my options for a diffrent birthcontrol. I have grown more and more annoyed with taking the pill. I know some of you have Mirena and love it. My husband has been reading all the negative things about it and does not want me to get it. He also can't understand why it so hard to remember to take a pill everyday since he does it. So tell me the good and the bad about Mirena? If there are any websites you have viewed as a tool for making your decision give those to me too. Also if you are using something else that you love recommend those.
I have Mirena and LOVE it. It is honestly the best medical decision I have ever made. I don't have a single negative thing to say about it. It's 5 years of no worry of pregnancy plus NO periods or PMS at all (that doesn't happen to everyone, though).
ETA: Not wanting to take the pill wasn't about remembering for me (I never ever forgot), it was all the other factors that I couldn't control. Variation in the hormone levels in the pills themselves, if I got sick and threw up or had the runs, if I had to take an antibiotic for something, etc. etc. Plus it's just not as effective as an IUD.
Like GLW said, it was the best decision we ever made! I spotted very lightly for about 4 weeks, and then nothing ever since. If I get stressed, I will spot here and there. I do get very slight cramps and some PMS type symptoms, but totally managable.
I had mine done on a Friday and was back to working out and sex by Monday
