In the Blue Ridge west of NoVA...power fluctuated for several hours last night but never stayed out. According to our power co map, about 10% of the people in our county don't have power and pretty much everyone ~ 1/2 mile and further down the mountain are without power. It was icy when I went to bed, it's snowing now. But no where near what my friends in Garrett Co MD are dealing with.
I grew up near there...I remember Garrett County was always the one canceling school in the winter because they got so much snow!
I was visiting one weekend there several years ago when they got 5 feet of snow in 24 hours. I had to send photos of my Mazda under a snow drift to work because they only got a little rain in the DC area and no one believed why I couldn't make it back for days.
Just did an outside check, we did lose one tree, but it luckily landed in open field vs 90 degrees different and into our master bedroom.
We still haven't heard from the ILs in Union County, NJ. Anyone know anything about that area? It's strange they haven't called yet.
My inlaws are in Plainfield. They lost power pretty early and a bunch of downed trees. We got a voicemail from them this morning but we can't reach them either. I'm guessing they used up all their battery on their cell and haven't thought to charge it in the car. Oh wait, the Sprint tower was totally down last night and they were on roaming now that I remember.

West of Philly, totally fine. Lost power for about 30 seconds and have a small puddle in the basement, but all the trees are still standing. Going to take a walk around the neighborhood soon, hopefully everyone was as lucky.
Anyone close to Aldie, VA? That's where MIL is. I know she was freaked out.

That is between me and the bulk of the NoVa posters, so unless something localized happened (like a tree falling or flooding from the stream through town) she probably made it through okay.
Looking at power co maps, if she's in Aldie proper and has Dominion, she likely has power, if she's on the outskirts and has NOVEC, it's more likely she doesn't have power. I have a friend that lives south of there on New Mountain Rd--she hasn't updated on Facebook yet and from the outtage map she probably doesn't have power. My friend that lives in Aldie proper doesn't do computers but her son hasn't sent out a call for people to send help (and he would if she needed it).
Baltimore - I was up every 2 hours last night checking the power/sump pump. We kept power all night and still this morning. Yay! Quick survey from the back deck and it looks like our neighborhood is pretty good.
I'm a bit worried about our rental house. Looking at the outage map, I'm pretty sure they are dark. No sump and no well pump. Can't decide if I should call or just wait for them to let us know.
Ruby, I would call or email. Our landlord checked on us first thing and I got the warm and fuzzys from it.

Thanks! I feel like I should. They really seem to be the type to be left alone though. Like they generally fix things themselves and when I offered to come sandbag for them, they said they would take care of it (which was good bc I ended up not having time for it)
eta: Just sent a text (our normal communication) wishing them well and saying if there is damage to let us know.
North of Philly. We still have power and no trees are down. I had to take H's car this morning because mine wouldn't start. Not sure if that is hurricane related, as the car was outside all day and night.
H is at BILs and they have no power, but no flooding, so that's good.
I'm at work now beacuse everyone else was here and I felt like a douche for calling out when people with no power were coming in.

Thank you. She is 2 miles from Dulles. I'm sure she is fine.
Parents are on the barrier island north of Atlantic City. The barrier island community is devastated. They took water up to their second floor but are other wise whole and ok. Whole homes are gone. Huge fishing vessels are sitting in the middle of roads, houses lifted off foundations and floated into the bayside. Its so completely and totally surreal.
Alexandria checking in. We lost power for 12 hours and it came back, still no cable. No flooding downstairs
That said, we got a knock on the door around midnight saying they may evacuate us due to flooding from the Potomac. We ended up not having to evacuate but we are supposed to be on alert if we get flooding later today. We have friends we can stay with in the worst case scenario.
Did winnie check in? I wonder if she also got a knock on her door...
It could be way worse...I was expecting power outages for a couple days.

We lost power at the same time. H and I just decided to go to bed but we check the county's website and it mentioned possible evacuations. We didn't get a knock on the door, though. Strange. Still, we are prepared to evacuate and have relatives to stay with.
Upstate NY, we definitely dodged a bullet especially since we've had 2 major floods in the past 5yrs. I have family in Hoboken with a full basement of water and no power, and family in Allentown PA that don't expect to get power back for 7-10 days. But overall, people are safe so far.

York, PA- Everything, everyone seems A-Okay, generally speaking. We have power at my house, but my parents were out last I heard. They also live in a rural area though. The area in general didn't take on much damage, downed trees, some flooded areas, but nothing terrible like other areas.
Jersey and Maryland people- you're all in my thoughts today.
Honestly, I was expecting it to be much worse and last a lot longer for us. The local weather made it out to be a days long, high winds, heavy rain fiasco. It turned out that the worst part lasted about six hours yesterday. Its supposed to keep raining today, but no downpours, and no more strong winds.
30 miles west of Philly and we're doing good. Lost power for two hours last night and it flickered a few times, but all in all, everything looks good. The roads were mostly clear, and I was able to get to work.
I am totally amazed at how many folks (here and local friends/family) have power. I expected far worse.
That said, over 40% of Harford county MD is without power. And our rental house is one of them. I heard from them, no trees down or damage, but no power and not expected back until Friday. But they have a generator and are ok.

Does anyone know how Long Island faired, further east? My niece lives in Westhampton Beach pretty close to the beach, and I have heard nothing. I am guessing they are at least without power since I haven't seen anything on fb. I am worried as her mom is a total flake who would probably not evacuate even if they were told to.

I am in California, but I just heard from my cousins in New Jersey. They are in Howell, Edison and Toms River and without power, but safe otherwise.
I wanted to post in case anyone was looking for people in that area and haven't heard from them yet. I know they have a few cell towers down and so getting calls out has been tough.
Just outside Harrisburg. Lost power for three hours last night. Haven't had any issues since. Got a ton of rain so there's a lot of flooding in the area. Haven't seen anything else local this morning.

Oh no. I love Brigantine. That is so sad. That sounds awful.

My best friend is in the Islip area (mid-LI) and she is ok. They lost power around 5:30 and she said they got it back around 2 am. I stayed up with her for most of the night checking in on her and feeding her updates. She just text me some pictures of her neighborhood and the main street under water. For the most part, she says they escaped the major damage.

I'm in NJ, northeast of Philly, near the Delaware River. Our power went out around 4:30 yesterday and came back on around 12:30 today. No water or other damage.
My parents are about an hour northeast of me, across the bay from Staten Island, and are ok, but low lying areas in their town and neighboring ones are underwater.
My cousin posted pictures on FB a little while ago that showed boats from an adjacent marina on the NJ Transit train tracks over Cheesequake Creek.
I've heard Staten Island was hit pretty hard and until about an hour ago, all the bridges to/from it were closed.
Husband's car was hit by a tree -- damaged but likely totaled.
No power or water for 4-7 days it looks like. Including no elevator, which means we have 17 flights of pitch black stairs to deal with when we leave the apartment.
No word on when subways will e back.
Cell and data are jammed up in manhattan. I only have service because I walked to a friend's apartment in Brooklyn to recharge/shower/call the insurance company.
And our families have no power and mine have downed trees, but that's what happens with any large storm for them.

I assume you are going to leave the city and camp out at a hotel until you have power? Good luck- there is only oen tunnel open, right? Are the bridges back open?
