We have a rocker/recliner in the nursery. I nurse him in it 85% of the time, so we definitely got our money's worth. We bought a Best chair from a local furniture store for $350 from a local furniture store. I think it's this one, and I don't think it looks like a nursery chair. www.myhomefurnitureanddecor.com/furniture-living-room-chairs-ingall-petite-p-1501.html
I used mine all the time and still do at almost 1 year. 1- It's a nice, stiff, supportive chair, and was the most comfortable place to nurse in the beginning when positioning was critical. I could support the boppy on the arm rests to get DD to the right height rather than being on the couch and having to stuff more pillows under my arms. 2- DD's room is my favorite room in the house and I just love to sit in there. 3- Now that DD is easily distractible, nursing in her room keeps her away from most distractions. 4- I still nurse DD to sleep for bedtime and some naps in her room. 5- I like a place to get away and nurse when we have company. 6- Even when not nursing, it's nice to have a comfortable chair in DD's room for when she is having trouble falling asleep and won't let me leave the room. 7- It's perfect for storytime before bed. 8- We rocked DD to sleep in the glider daily when she was younger. 9- It's a great place to put her for pics.
Uhhh... that was long. But, honestly, I'm having a hard time fathoming not having a comfortable place to sit in DD's room.
we use ours a good bit. DS isn't a cuddler, but we do read books in it each night. when he was smaller i'd feed him there as well, along with rocking him. i also occasionally go grab him out of the crib after he's asleep and rock him since he won't let me do this when he's awake.

We used an office desk chair. The kind on wheels that reclines a little bit. We are cheap and have no room. I didnt nurse, but I had to admit our cheapness.

DD is 14 months and I would say we still use the glider daily. I use it more than DH does since I nurse her in the glider before she goes to bed. However if she wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes DH will use it to rock her back to sleep.
DD can get distracted while nursing so there were/are times it was better to go into her room and nurse there. It also provides a nice place to sit if we are just hanging out in her room.
We have a rocker in our living room (Restoration Hardware) and we have used it every day since we brought our son home. I no longer nurse but we still read stories, or just rock and relax to help him unwind before bed. I couldn't live without it. We also have an Eames knockoff rocker in his nursery. It's not nearly as comfortable as the other, but it's still useful, particularly recently since he has been waking up a lot due to teething pain.
MMM... I'm breaking the rule replying because I don't have a glider but after DS1 and once nursing him at a friend's house in HER glider I swore I would get one w/ DS2. I didn't get it and I"m so glad. I nursed him side-lying in bed most of the time and now I use a wooden rocking chair but I've gotten about 4 months out of it. Only before bedtime. I'm glad I didn't spring for an expensive GIANT piece of furniture we would hardly use. Maybe if I'd had it for both kids it would be worth it. Maybe.
We used the glider a ton when DS was an itty bitty little thing and we still had a ton of visitors. However, we eventually moved the glider to the living room since it gets much more use there.
ETA: We got ours on sale from BRU, lol. I don't think we spent more than $300 on it and it doesn't scream nursery to me.
Here's a pic of it in the living room. DS now loves to climb on it if DH isn't sitting in there.

I got a glider after my second and used it a lot. I put in our room, though, where the baby slept. Now we have one in the boys' bedroom and we sit in it every night reading to them. I would try CL before new.
We had (and stll have) a plushy glider in my son's room. When he was baby, we mainly used it before bed, during the night (my H fell asleep rocking the baby many times) and I would nurse the baby in there if we had company (and I needed privacy).
We still sit in it every night to read a nighttime story before bed. Go for comfort!!
Except for when we're traveling, we've seriously used the glider every day since DS was born. I nursed him in it a lot when he was younger, as well as rocked, and then it just stayed in his room and we still use it every night to read stories before bed (obviously we could use a regular chair but it's in there, sooo). It will move to this next baby's room (um, whenever this baby gets a room) and maybe even eventually to our living room. It's a nice upholstered glider and I think we'll get a ton of use out of it.

DD is almost 2 and I still use it daily. I couldn't function without it and DD loves it (we read books before bed and sometimes cuddle in the mornings). I got mine for $30 on CL, practically new. God, when she was a newborn I spent my entire life in that thing!
Eh, not all gliders scream nursery. Ours is a charcoal gray overstuffed-looking armchair with a matching ottoman. When we're done having kids, it will fit in just fine in our living room or family room.
Yeah, ours is gray and definitely does not scream nursery, either. Most people who see it don't realize it's a glider until they sit in it. It will work great in the living or family room eventually (but even if it stayed in DS's room for 10 years, it seems like it would be worth it - I would buy a $500+ couch if I was going to keep it for 10 years.
This is how I feel. My glider actually does scream nursery, and we will never move it to the living room. But we will wind up using it for at least 8-9 years even if we only leave it in #3's room until he is 2 or 3 years old. I suspect we will pass it on to my little brother and his wife or sell it on Craig's List after that. That seems like a pretty good life span for a piece of upholstered furniture to me. I typically don't keep sofas or chairs longer than that without reupholstering.
